Job Overview

The Associate IT Network Administrator serves the Network Operations Center (NOC) of the Infrastructure, Operations, and Network (ION) bureau within the Department of Health (DOH). The role monitors network performance, manages users and permissions, and creates technical support documentation for systems and applications.

Responsibilities

• Assist advanced-level network administrators in managing routers, switches, and Wireless Access Points (WAPs) at various sites.
• Monitor the network to ensure optimal performance and raise issues to advanced-level administrators as needed.
• Administer and maintain networking devices and security appliances.
• Ensure network connectivity to computer workstations and respond to network trouble tickets from DOH personnel.
• Coordinate with external network service providers to resolve issues and handle network user permissions in the Windows Active Directory environment.

Customers

This position reports to the IT Network Manager of the NOC and supports all DOH employees and contracted staff.

Ideal Candidate

Minimum Qualification

Associate Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering, or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in end-user support, systems administration, or network administration. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and or direct experience in this occupation totaling four (4) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Working Conditions

Incumbent responds on a rotating schedule to callback at any hour of the day on weekends and holidays for communications system diagnostic and restoration. Very long hours (10–12 hour days) are sometimes necessary. Driving long distance (500 mile round trips) is sometimes necessary. Lifting in excess of 50–70 pounds is not uncommon. Climbing steel communication towers to 300 feet is not uncommon in all types of weather conditions. Light truck operation on and off road is necessary, sometimes in very adverse weather conditions. Transportation and operation of snow machines (Sno-Cat) in mountainous terrain is required. Working in odd physical postures is necessary when installing or repairing radio equipment in vehicles and on remote site installations.
