Position Summary :
The CNC Machinist Programmer Mill & Lathe is responsible for programming, setting up, and operating CNC lathes and mills to produce precision components to exacting specifications. This role demands expertise in both turning and milling operations, the ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, and a strong commitment to quality in a regulated defense manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities :
Program, set up, and operate CNC lathes and mills, including multi-axis and live-tooling machines
Generate and optimize CNC programs using CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, Fusion 360, Siemens NX)
Interpret detailed blueprints, 3D CAD models, and apply GD&T principles
Select tools, set machine offsets, and conduct test runs to ensure accuracy
Machine a variety of metals including aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and exotic alloys
Collaborate with engineering and QA teams to ensure manufacturability and compliance
Perform first article and in-process inspections using precision measuring instruments
Troubleshoot machining issues and recommend process improvements
Ensure adherence to AS9100, ITAR, DFARS, and other applicable defense regulations
Maintain machine cleanliness, tool inventories, and preventive maintenance schedules
Required Qualifications :
High school diploma or GED required; technical certificate or associate degree preferred
Minimum 5 years of CNC programming and hands-on machining experience (lathe and mill)
Proficient in G-code and M-code programming
Expertise in CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, GibbsCAM, or similar)
Proficient with manual and digital inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, height gauges, CMM)
Ability to read and interpret complex mechanical / engineering drawings and GD&T
Strong knowledge of aerospace / defense material properties and cutting parameters
U.S. Citizenship required due to government contract work
Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance
Preferred Qualifications :
Experience with 4- and 5-axis machining, live tooling lathes, and Swiss-style turning
Experience working in an AS9100, ISO 9001, or ITAR-compliant facility
Familiarity with ERP / MRP systems (e.g., JobBOSS, Epicor, or similar)
Compensation details : 28 Hourly Wage
