Position Summary
The Senior Accountant oversees the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and leads the accounting team. The Senior Accountant prepares and analyzes financial data and reports, supervises staff, and collaborates with other departments to support strategic decision-making within the organization; s / he maintains the integrity of financial records and ensures proper accounting procedures are followed.
Essential Functions
Accounts Payable (AP) Oversight
- Oversee the team member(s) responsible for receiving, vouchering, coding, and processing all vendor invoices and expense reports in a timely and accurate manner.
- Ensure efficient and controlled processing of all vendor payments (checks, ACH, wire transfers) and monitor cash disbursements.
- Maintain professional relationships with vendors and manage the resolution of complex payment discrepancies or issues.
- Enforce established controls and compliance procedures within the AP function to prevent fraud and errors.
- Manage the annual preparation and filing of 1099 forms (for US companies) or equivalent regulatory documents.
Accounts Receivable (AR) Oversight
Ensure timely and accurate customer invoicing and ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with GAAP.Oversee the accurate recording and reconciliation of all cash receipts and bank deposits.Monitor and manage the aging of Accounts Receivable and lead the collection efforts for overdue customer accounts, escalating issues as necessary.Implement and optimize AR processes to minimize days sales outstanding (DSO) and improve overall cash flow.General Ledger (GL) Management
Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of the General Ledger, which forms the foundation of all financial statements.Oversee and review all monthly and quarterly balance sheet account reconciliations to ensure all accounts are properly balanced and supported.Supervise the preparation and review of complex journal entries, ensuring they adhere to established accounting policies and GAAP.Directly manage and execute the timely and accurate month-end and year-end close processes.Financial Analysis and Reporting
Critically prepare, review and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements to identify key trends, variances, and potential financial risks or opportunities.Collaborate with other departments, including sales, operations, and senior management, to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making to include managing operational costs to optimize profitability.Prepare clear, concise, and insightful financial presentations and reports for Executive team.Team Leadership
Supervise, schedule, and lead the daily work assignments of the accounting staff.Set clear performance objectives, provide ongoing coaching and mentorship, and conduct regular performance evaluations to support the professional growth of team members.Review the work performed by direct reports ensuring absolute accuracy and compliance before finalization.Foster a culture of continuous improvement, identifying inefficiencies in workflows (especially in AP / AR processing and the month-end close) and developing and implementing new procedures to enhance productivity.Resolve complex internal or external issues related to accounting with professionalism and sound judgment.Ability to convey Tiger Sanitation as the obvious choice for our customers, employees and community.Actively demonstrates Tiger Sanitation’s core values in daily tasks and communications : Professionalism, Respect, Accountability and Communication.Other duties as assignedRequirements :
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
