Job Summary :
- Corporate level position supporting NRG's fleet of steam turbines across the country. Steam Turbine Engineer / Specialist will provide on-site support for field inspections, condition assessments and run, repair, replace recommendations. Coordinate repair activities with various repair shops and suppliers. Assist in developing and / or reviewing quality plans in addition to monitoring and auditing supplier quality. Emphasis on communication amongst peers, site management, and leadership team. Review of equipment histories, applicable manufacturers bulletins, and operational history and requirements to develop long range plans for steam turbines. Support our culture for safety, environmental compliance, and quality.
Essential Duties / Responsibilities :
Supports and emphasizes the importance of safety and environmental programsEvaluates component condition and repair options and performs risk assessment for maintenance activitiesParticipates and / or leads teams that focus on specific problem areas or needs for generating unitsCommunicates with customers regarding condition of equipment and repair work scopeInspects completed work or work in progress to assure job qualityPerforms field inspections and takes field measurementsCoordinates activities with Vendors / Contractors, other divisions and departmentsRecognizes problems and is proactive in helping to resolve themPerforms root cause analysis of system and equipment problemsDevelops quality work plans when requiredPerforms engineering calculations in area of responsibilityAssists in outage planning and economic evaluation of turbine projects as neededMay be required to manage projects in area of expertiseEnsures company resources are used in a cost effective mannerPrepares written reports in assigned area of responsibilityPerforms technical duties in area of responsibilityDevelops and maintains technical specifications for purchase of replacement parts, vendor repairs and maintenance standardsIdentifies and implements new or existing repair technology in area of responsibilityTrack AIB / TIL's for steam / generators and assess implementation and compliance strategyQualifies vendors and suppliers for parts and services in area of responsibilityWorking Conditions :
Normal office environment and / or outside work environment (including working at heights, high / low ambient temperatures and high humidity areas at generating plants)Requires travel to and from NRG plants or vendor facilities across the country (approx. 20% of the time)Requires operation of a motor vehicle and a valid drivers licenseRequires personal protective safety equipment while in the plantsOvertime or non-standard hours may be requiredRequires operating a personal computerMinimum Requirements :
Minimum of Baccalaureate Degree in appropriate Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university and 5 years of experience in steam or gas turbine equipment maintenance, operations, and troubleshooting.Or, a minimum of 10 years of experience in steam or gas turbine equipment maintenance / repair, operations, and troubleshooting.All positions at NRG will require at least a high school diploma or GED equivalentFundamental knowledge of vibration analysis and balancing of large rotating equipmentFundamental knowledge of working materials and metallurgy of steam turbines and componentsFundamental knowledge of control systems for large steam turbinesFundamental knowledge of GE, Siemens, Westinghouse Steam turbinesPreferred Qualifications :
An Engineering degree and minimum 15 years of experience in steam or gas turbine engineering, maintenance, operations, and troubleshootingMinimum of 20 years of experience in maintenance, operations, and troubleshooting of steam or gas turbinesTraining and experience in vibration analysis and balancing of large rotating equipmentKnowledge of working materials and metallurgy of steam turbines and componentsKnowledge of mechanical hydraulic control systems for large steam turbinesAdditional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Effective communication skills with craft personnel, site leadership, as well as management.Ability to take a leadership role meetings and communications around steam turbine issues.Project management skillsKnowledge of power plant systemsKnowledge of turbine repair processesAbility to prepare written reports and presentations to managementPhysical Requirements :
Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and ladders, and entering plant equipment access, inspect or collect data on plant equipment.Please Note : Salary offered will be commensurate with the successful candidate's education and / or experience and consistent with the job location's market pay rate.
