We are excited to announce an opportunity within our Facilities Management operations team for a Custodial Manager in the Academic Zone. This pivotal role supports Facilities Management's goal of providing consistent, cost-effective, and reliable maintenance and custodial service for over 400 buildings across Grounds. The typical shift for this position is M-F, 12pm - 8 : 30pm; some coverage may be required outside of typical work schedule as this position leads teams who support evening shift operations. As the Custodial Manager, you will play a vital role in elevating the custodial program through collaboration and a commitment to service excellence, addressing the unique needs of research facilities, the medical and nursing schools, classrooms buildings, and office spaces. Your leadership will make a significant impact on the daily living experience of thousands of students, staff, and facility, ensuring their workspaces are clean, safe, and welcoming. You will oversee a dynamic team of custodial supervisors and staff, helping to maintain and enhance their work environment across multiple shifts.

Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic, and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair, and maintenance of UVA's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds, as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

Responsibilities include :

• Leadership & Team Development : Guide, mentor, and inspire a diverse team of 2 - 3 supervisors and approximately 25 frontline custodians. Foster a positive environment that encourages professional growth and high standards of cleanliness across various buildings supporting research and learning. Lead recruitment, performance management, and professional development processes, with a focus on creating career advancement opportunities within the custodial team.
• Operational Excellence & Collaboration : Oversee custodial operations, ensuring efficient, safe, and effective service across all shifts. Collaborate with Maintenance Zone leadership to coordinate activities and ensure a seamless operational environment. Partner with facilities professionals, contractors, and building occupants to ensure high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all workspaces.
• Training & Development : Lead training initiatives to ensure your team is proficient in the latest custodial techniques and safety protocols. Encourage professional growth and skill development to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
• Stakeholder Engagement : Maintain positive, professional relationships with stakeholders, including students, faculty, staff, and university leadership. Ensure custodial services align with the needs of our vibrant campus community and reflect our commitment to service excellence.
• Project Management : Manage custodial projects, ensuring timely, within-scope, and budget-compliant completion. Collaborate closely with Maintenance Zone leadership to ensure a unified approach to facility management.
• Process Improvement & Analytics : Collect, analyze, and interpret data to drive process improvements that enhance the student, faculty and staff experience. Establish and monitor key performance indicators to ensure custodial services consistently meet cleanliness and safety standards.
• Safety & Compliance : Foster a safe work environment by ensuring compliance with OSHA, federal, state, and local safety regulations.
• Budget & Resource Management : Execute budget responsibilities related to custodial teams, ensuring cost-effective management of resources while meeting service expectations.

Anticipated Compensation : $70,000 - $76,000 annually; additional compensation may be considered for a successful candidate who meets or exceeds preferred qualifications and experience. Physical Demands : This position is primarily an office position. Incumbent will periodically go to buildings to inspect the work being performed. This is an exempt-level, benefited position.
