The Controls Field Service Technician repairs and services equipment and machinery at customer facilities for both warranty and non-warranty issues. Responsible for providing information to create service quotations, processing service orders, executing service contracts to completion, and managing longer-term service contracts. Acts as the main service contact for strategic customer accounts.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES :
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical equipment at customer facilities and make necessary adjustments to restore operation.
- Access PLC and HMI programs, and utilize trend analysis and debugging tools for troubleshooting.
- Perform online programming changes for retrofitting or upgrading equipment.
- Set up servos, VFDs, remote I / O, Ethernet & Profibus networks, and other electronic controls.
- Interpret mechanical drawings and electrical / pneumatic schematics.
- Troubleshoot electrical panels.
- Operate machinery to demonstrate operation and analyze malfunctions.
- Supervise operators and maintenance staff during testing, tuning, and adjustments.
- Advise management on customer satisfaction and product performance; suggest improvements.
- Collaborate with customers and internal teams on equipment layout during line moves.
- Resolve service issues over the phone when possible.
- Work with suppliers to resolve technical issues at customer sites.
- Travel domestically and internationally to customer locations.
- Make repair / replacement recommendations based on necessity.
- Follow customer safety and plant regulations.
- Complete detailed Service Reports promptly.
- Follow up with customers post-service to ensure resolution or organize future support.
- Guide on warranty vs. non-warranty issues.
- Stay updated on current products and equipment used at ATS.
- Be available on a rotational on-call basis and assist non-service personnel as needed.
- Meet or exceed customer expectations efficiently.
- Perform accurate equipment audits and reports.
- Instruct and guide workers in servicing and repairing.
- Consult with engineering for resolving complex system issues.
- Provide monthly activity reports.
- Maintain or exceed department utilization standards.
- Assist other departments as directed by the Service Manager.
- Maintain ISO standards and be familiar with NEC, NFPA 79, and international electrical standards.
QUALIFICATIONS :
College degree in engineering or related field preferred, or equivalent experience.6 years of hands-on mechanical / electrical experience preferred.Proficiency with Rockwell PLCs, HMIs, and servo controls preferred.Ability to work under pressure in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.Customer problem-solving experience required.Ability to read drawings, manuals, and assembly instructions.Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.Ability to identify parts and assemblies.Strong interpersonal and commercial skills.JOB SPECIFICATIONS :
