Overview
Senior Engineering Manager, Energy Efficiency at CLEAResult. As a Senior Engineering Manager, you lead initiatives that deliver cost savings to end-users and reduce emissions across a portfolio of more than 85 gas and electric programs throughout the Midwest, with a focus on Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan and Wisconsin. In this role, you oversee a team of 10–15 engineers, ranging from Energy Engineer I to V, including engineering people leaders.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate Technical Leadership
- Provide expertise in audits, evaluations, HVAC, M&V, RCx, refrigeration, tool development and / or other areas of focus for our team and clients.
- Direct updates to templates, tools, and procedures to reflect client requests and industry developments.
- Lead team engagement with evaluation contractors and utility clients.
- Guide team members in applying technical knowledge effectively.
- Ensure adherence to processes, procedures, and performance standards.
- Oversee Team Workload and Project Execution
- Manage team workload to ensure timely, high-quality delivery of client projects. Communicate project status, technical updates, and key milestones effectively to team members, stakeholders, and senior leadership.
- Mentor and Grow Engineering Talent
- Provide guidance and support to engineers in developing technical and professional skills. Foster a culture of continuous learning and career advancement.
- Manage Financial and Operational Resources
- Oversee team labor and operating expenses, maintaining minimal variance to plan and forecasts. Allocate resources effectively to ensure successful project delivery.
- Lead Scope and Budget Development
- Develop and negotiate engineering scopes of work and budgets for business development opportunities, ensuring alignment with client expectations and organizational goals.
- Foster Strategic Relationships
- Build and maintain strong relationships with engineering leadership and regional peers to ensure alignment on current and future client needs. Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments and senior leadership to drive projects and initiative success.
- Drive Strategic Planning and Program Improvement
- Lead efforts to enhance program delivery and internal processes. Contribute to the development of strategic plans for the engineering organization by identifying growth opportunities and proactively addressing challenges.
- Influence Program Design Through Industry Expertise
- Apply deep industry knowledge and awareness of emerging technologies to shape program design, improve performance, and identify efficiency opportunities.
- Recruit and Develop Talent
- Lead hiring efforts, conduct interviews, and provide onboarding and training. Support team development through ongoing coaching, mentorship, and career growth opportunities.
- Champion Process Improvements
- Identify and implement process enhancements within your team and across our engineering organization to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Communicate Technical Insights
- Present technical and team-related information regularly to clients and internal stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment.
- Deliver ongoing feedback to leadership and team members regarding goals, milestones, deadlines, and performance metrics to support accountability and improvement.
- Travel up to 25% for client facing meetings, project support and team gatherings.
- Hybrid role expectations to be in office 1-2 days a week
You will have
Bachelor's degree in mechanical, electrical, civil or environmental engineering.Minimum of 10 years of experience in energy efficiency and / or sustainability consultingMinimum of 8 years of people management experienceProficient in Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills – experience with VBA a plusExcellent communication skills (verbal, interpersonal, and written)High level of motivation and interest in working in a fast-paced environmentExcellent organization and time management skillsDemonstrated ability to create growth opportunities for team membersStrong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilitiesExposure to building and system modeling software a plus – examples : Energy Plus, eQuest, JMP, NEO, TraneTrace or othersCompensation
Target Compensation : $150,000 / year
Compensation Range
