Sr. Lead Teradata DBA
- Remote (Must reside within two hours of Springfield, IL)
- Contract Type : 12-month contract, possibly open to contract-to-hire (CFH)

We are seeking a Senior Lead Teradata DBA to support a large-scale Medicaid Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) initiative. This hybrid role combines systems administration and application-level DBA responsibilities, requiring deep expertise in Teradata environments, performance tuning, data governance, and Medicaid data operations.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who can manage infrastructure, optimize database performance, and guide development teams on best practices. This is a mission-critical role supporting Medicaid data infrastructure, analytics, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Database Leadership & Governance
Lead Teradata database initiatives, including upgrades, configuration, and data governanceCollaborate with cross-functional teams to meet business, security, and reporting needsParticipate in agile development cycles and large-scale DDI implementationsSystems Administration & Infrastructure Support
Administer and maintain OnPrem Teradata systems (6800 / 1800 or IntelliFlex)Apply patches, upgrades, and hardware replacements; resolve vulnerabilitiesMonitor system health using Viewpoint and other tools; support DR planning and testingCoordinate with vendors and subcontractors for system hardening and complianceDatabase Operations & Optimization
Perform backup / recovery using BAR DSA and NetBackupTune performance across CPU, I / O, Spool, and StorageManage workload using TASM and Workload Manager partitionsAdminister access controls, role rights, and security protocolsDevelopment Support & Application DBA Tasks
Guide developers on schema design, query optimization, and job handlingReview and approve database components for EDW applicationsSupport OpenText BI-Query models and front-end toolsLead technical meetings and deliverables with minimal supervisionReporting, Compliance & Audits
Generate capacity and performance reportsSupport internal and IRS audits; proactively address risksEnsure compliance with SCSEM and other security frameworksCommunicate system alerts and status updates to stakeholdersRequired Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience7+ years as a lead Teradata DBA (Version 15+) with both system and application responsibilitiesExperience with OnPrem Teradata systems (6800 / 1800 or IntelliFlex)Advanced SQL and Teradata utilities (FastLoad, Multiload, FastExport, BTEQ, TPT)Proven performance tuning in large databases (>5TB)
Experience in data governance and metadata managementMedicaid, healthcare, or government project experienceStrong system administration skills (Windows / Linux)Demonstrated leadership in capacity planning, performance management, and client presentationsExperience with large-scale DDI projects and issue resolutionExcellent communication and mentoring skillsPreferred Qualifications
Teradata Vantage Certified MasterData modeling experience (Erwin or similar)Experience with OpenText BI-Query and metadata toolsFamiliarity with Medicaid / Medicare applicationsAgile development experience (Scrum, DevOps, GitHub)ETL development or data analysis experienceCloud migration experience (Snowflake, Azure)Willingness to travel quarterly or as neededU.S. work authorization requiredMust reside within two hours of Springfield, IL
