The General Manager plays a key role in the success of a Sur La Table store by leading a high-performing team that inspires customers throughout every stage of their culinary experience. This position combines strategic business acumen with strong operational expertise to drive both culinary and retail business performance while delivering #bestincenter service.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Development : Recruit, develop and retain a high-performing team to meet the business needs of both culinary and retail; lead, coach, and inspire associates to exceed performance expectations and uphold a positive team culture; conduct regular performance evaluations, provide feedback, and create development plans to support growth.
- Customer Experience & Brand Representation : Remain knowledgeable by staying updated on products, utilizing available training, and seeking additional resources as needed; ensure exceptional customer experience by leading a customer-focused culture; uphold Sur La Table’s brand standards through service, store presentation, and culinary class execution; address customer concerns and resolve issues to maintain satisfaction and loyalty.
- Sales & Business Performance : Exceed sales goals by developing and implementing strategies to enhance the culinary and retail business; analyze key performance metrics daily and leverage insights to optimize store performance; ensure achievement of sales goals and financial targets through merchandising, marketing, and customer engagement.
- Operations & Compliance : Oversee daily store operations, ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures; maintain accurate inventory levels, minimize shrink, and ensure proper product merchandising; ensure store safety and cleanliness, addressing maintenance needs promptly; maintain accuracy and integrity of employee records (time / attendance, certifications, personal information); adhere to wage and hour laws and record time worked; model and communicate all policies and SOPs to associates and ensure they are followed.
Physical Requirements
Ability to communicate verbally and work cooperatively with associates and customersAbility to remain standing for up to 5 hours at a timeAbility to move about the store coaching and directing associates; selling to customers and retrieving merchandiseAbility to grab, reach, push, pull, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch to retrieve and replenish merchandiseAbility to lift and / or move merchandise weighing up to 50 lbs.Ability to ascend / descend ladders to retrieve and / or move merchandiseAbility to operate a computer, POS system, keyboards, merchandise scanners and mouseWorkweeks are expected to be between 46 and 48 hours with a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidaysRegular and predictable attendanceQualifications & Experience
