The Paralegal provides vital support to Legal Aid of Nebraska attorneys by delivering high-quality litigation and administrative assistance. This role involves direct interaction with clients and witnesses, document drafting, legal research, and coordination with courts and opposing counsel. The Paralegal plays a critical role in ensuring the effective and efficient delivery of legal services to underserved Nebraskans. This specific role will support the Native American Program.
Essential Functions :
- Communicate professionally and effectively with attorneys, staff, clients, courts, and community partners.
- Perform legal and factual research using tools such as LexisNexis and other appropriate legal databases.
- Draft, edit, and proofread legal documents including pleadings, motions, and correspondence.
- Interview clients and witnesses to obtain detailed information relevant to case preparation.
- File legal documents with courts and ensure timely delivery of documents to judges or court personnel.
- Act as liaison between attorneys and clients, as well as with opposing counsel and other stakeholders.
- Respond to client inquiries and provide case updates as directed by attorneys.
- Organize and manage case files, maintain documentation, and track deadlines.
- Conduct investigations and compile statistical or documentary evidence in support f litigation.
- Assist with administrative office tasks, including maintaining legal databases and systems such as Microsoft Office and PIKA.
- Participate in implementing Legal Aid’s mission and programmatic goals.
- Comply with Legal Aid policies and LSC regulations.

Requirements : Basic Requirements :
High school diploma or equivalent.Two to five years of experience working as a paralegal.Preferred Requirements :
Certification as a CLA (Certified Legal Assistant) or equivalent paralegal certification.Experience working with low-income or underserved populations.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines under pressure.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal research databases.Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professional ethics.Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team setting.Flexibility and adaptability to changing workloads and priorities.Physical Requirements :
Primarily office-based with general office conditionsMust be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods and operate standard office equipmentMust be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
