Position Overview : As a Counselor, you will play a crucial role in the recovery journey of our patients. Pinnacle's approach combines compassionate care with innovative treatment methods to address diverse needs for substance use disorders.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide orientation to new patients to the programs' rules, policies, procedures, and patients' rights.
- Conduct intakes, discharge planning, initial assessments, and initial treatment plans professionally and within time guidelines as required by applicable federal and state regulation, CARF guidelines, and Pinnacle policies.
- Involve patients in assessment, treatment planning, and intervention to empower their recovery.
- Administer the biopsychosocial assessment at intake and on an ongoing basis.
- Develop and implement individualized Treatment Plans using SNAP (Strengths, Needs, Ability, and Preferences) to meet short- and long-term goals.
- Determine clinical necessity of counseling services based on assessments.
- Monitor and document changes affecting recovery; identify relapse indicators and implement relapse prevention interventions early.
- Comply with Medical QA and Clinical Risk Management policies, including (as applicable) :
- Evaluate high-risk conditions and administer screening tools (BAM-R, C-SSRS, GAD-7, PHQ-9).
- Assess risk factors and determine appropriate treatment settings; refer to specialists as needed with proper releases of information.
- Flag high-risk patients to Medical Directors, Physician Extenders, and Regional Clinical Leadership; coordinate referrals as needed.
- Document notes and communicate high-risk factors to the care team; circulate minutes from treatment team meetings.
- Provide professional counseling and referrals to secondary services as needed; address clinical and special needs through individual and group counseling; utilize techniques such as CBT and Motivational Interviewing.
- Schedule and track counseling sessions; document sessions in the EHR; participate in community relations and outreach.
- Attend required trainings and case conferences; collect research data when requested; observe urine collection when required.
- Attend team meetings and complete all training courses in a timely manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Counselor I : $20 / hour to $22 / hour — Possess an associate degree in a relevant field with required registration / credentials; Kern County requires a bachelor's degree or high school diploma / GED with 75% certification education.Counselor II : $22 / hour to $25 / hour — Possess an associate degree or equivalent certification; CA DHCS requirements apply; 2–5 years of experience or master's level is preferred.Counselor III : $25 / hour to $28 / hour (Certified) & $28 / hour to $31 / hour (Licensed) — Must be licensed, license-eligible, or certified; hold AOD counselor certification; ensure licensure or certification is current and maintained.Experience — Prior SUD counseling experience preferred.
Education — Required : technical / other training in Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services or related field; Associate degree in Psychology or related field. Preferred : Bachelor's or Master's in Psychology or related field.
Licenses & Certifications — Preferred : SUDCC certifications, LPC, LCSW, LMFT, CADC, etc.
