Job Summary
The Risk Specialist works under attorney supervision within the Office of Legal Affairs to support efficient and compliant management of professional liability and medical risk management functions, primarily within ambulatory clinics.
Responsibilities
- Ensure accuracy of data within the RLDatix event tracking system as it relates to Feedback Management.
- Process non-behavioral patient warnings and terminations from the medical practice in compliance with law and University policy; review with providers and staff the circumstances leading to non-behavioral terminations and recommend other measures when appropriate.
- Ensure the medical records accurately reflect the basis for non-behavioral warnings and terminations.
- Draft appropriate and accurate letters on behalf of providers to inform patients of actions needed to preserve the physician-patient relationship or to explain the reasons that relationship cannot continue.
- Competently spot risk issues and consult risk managers and attorneys as needed to complete assigned duties or special projects.
- Professionally and empathetically handle calls from patients terminated from a practice for non-behavioral reasons.
- Provide support on special projects such as collection, organization, analysis of trends identified in the RLDatix event tracking system and preparing related reports.
- Assist with planning, management, and monitoring of assigned projects from attorneys and risk managers.
- Prepare materials to be presented at the Professional Liability Advisory Committee.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education : Associate's Degree in Nursing or related fieldExperience : 3 years of experience in healthcare, quality assurance, compliance, risk management, or legal setting.Preferred
Licenses and Certifications (LVN) LICENSED VOCATIONAL NURSE; Licensed Vocational Nurse preferred upon hire.Benefits
