Paralegal with Commercial Litigation - Construction Law Focus
Location : Fort Lauderdale, FL
Position Overview : Regional law firm has an opening for an experienced Commercial Litigation Paralegal to join their legal team in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The ideal candidate will have expertise in managing construction-related litigation cases, supporting attorneys in all stages of the litigation process, and ensuring the timely and efficient handling of case documents and legal research.
Key Responsibilities
- Case Management : Assist attorneys with the preparation and organization of construction litigation cases (construction law experience not required), including drafting and filing legal documents (pleadings, motions, discovery requests, etc.).
- Legal Research : Conduct thorough research related to construction law, regulations, contracts, and precedent cases.
- Document Management : Organize and maintain case files, including preparing exhibits, summarizing depositions, and tracking timelines for important case deadlines.
- Discovery : Assist in the discovery process by managing document production, preparing discovery requests, and preparing responses to opposing counsel's discovery.
- Communication : Liaise with clients, opposing counsel, and experts, ensuring clear and effective communication throughout the litigation process.
- Court Filings : File legal documents with the court, monitor case status, and prepare for hearings or trials.
- Case Preparation : Assist with trial preparation by organizing exhibits, preparing witness lists, drafting trial summaries, and coordinating logistics.
- Contract Review : Review and summarize construction contracts, subcontracts, and other relevant documents to identify issues for litigation.
- Deposition and Trial Support : Provide administrative support during depositions and trials, including assisting with witness preparation and organizing evidence.
Qualifications
Education : Bachelor's degree or paralegal certificate from an accredited institution.Experience : At least 3–5 years of experience as a paralegal, with a focus on construction litigation.Knowledge : In-depth understanding of construction laws, regulations, and contract disputes, as well as the litigation process.Skills : Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple tasks. Proficiency with legal software, case management tools, and Microsoft Office Suite. Relativity software or similar is a plus.Communication : Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.Certifications : Certification from the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) or other relevant paralegal certification preferred.Compensation
Commensurate with experience up to $85,000, plus a great benefits package. Possible hybrid after 90 days.
