Overview
This is an advanced / lead position in the Control Systems business that will require regular application of expertise in the electrical engineering field and the use of considerable initiative and creativity. The Control Systems group is a start-up business inside an established medical device development organization. The direct responsibilities for this position include architecture, development, and execution electrical designs for a real-time control system product line for medical instruments.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership over complex, major design & development projects
- Design, implement and deliver high quality, robust embedded electrical designs for the business
- Create, maintain, and review technical documents and reports including performance specifications, electrical designs, schematics and drawings
- Drive electrical requirements with other members of the engineering team as appropriate and proactively work to integrate with system requirements
- Plan, lead, or conduct experiments to evaluate operating characteristics of breadboards, prototypes, or products, and then translate experimental results into design criteria
- Specify the design of cables and cable harness assemblies
- Utilize electronic design tools such as schematic capture and PCB layout to design PCBAs
- Engage with service bureaus and suppliers on PCB layout, fabrication and assembly
- Work with our embedded software group to develop FPGAs and PLDs, using HDL
- Ensure component reliability based on technical evaluation of suppliers' specifications and designs
- Utilize electrical engineering best practices including Design-for-Manufacturing (DFM) and Design-for-Test (DFT)
- Work cooperatively across all engineering disciplines, such as software, systems, electrical, and mechanical, as well as non-engineering team members, such as Project management, Marketing, Sales, and Customer Support, to deliver projects on-time and on budget
- Prepare project requests detailing proposed engineering work costs and product timetable
- Be responsible for application engineering support to customers, and assist in troubleshooting customer application problems
- Provide technical presentation support and consultation to marketing
- Represent the company in customer communications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (Master's degree is preferred) with at least 14 years of experience in electrical engineering and electronic design and developmentDiversified knowledge of engineering theories, concepts, principles, practices, and processes, including in one or more areas of advanced technical expertise, and possess creativity and originality sufficient to contribute to new inventions, designs, or techniques that are of material significance in the solution of important problemsPrior experience leading small development teamsExpertise with schematic and PCB designs using mixed digital and analog circuits for electromechanical systems, including stepper and servo motorsProficiency with cable designs and programmable logic (FPGA and VDHL) preferredPrevious experience with design for medical devices preferredFamiliarity with design of test equipment and fixtures preferredSkills And Abilities
