Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center, Indiana's first community mental health center, provides comprehensive care for emotional and behavioral problems, including severe mental illness and substance abuse. The Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center offers both inpatient and outpatient services, including several outreach centers as well as clinic- and community-based services.

The Sandra Eskenazi Mental Health Center (“Sandra Eskenazi MHC”) Director of Nursing reports to the SEMHC Chief Operations Officer (“COO”) and collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer (“CMO”) to provide oversight to psychiatric inpatient, outpatient and community nursing operations. This role directly supervises the Mental Health Recovery Center manager and the outpatient nursing coordinators. The Director of Nursing ensures that nursing and acute psychiatric care operate according to best practice and regulatory expectations while producing high quality client outcomes.
What to Expect
Utilizing current knowledge of healthcare operations and clinical expertise, the Nursing Director provides leadership and expertise to advance nursing practice and the provision of quality healthcare delivery across SEMHC through interprofessional collaboration. The Nursing Director facilitates a learning environment within the framework of shared decision making. The Nursing Director contributes to and supports the implementation of nursing strategic plan & goals and is accountable for the attainment of these goals.
Am I Qualified?
- Master’s degree in Nursing
- Active and unencumbered registered nurse licensure in the State of Indiana
- Valid Indiana driver’s license that meets Eskenazi Health’s driving policy requirements
- Five years of clinical experience in a mental health setting
- Five years of management / supervision experience

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health’s mission : Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County; models Eskenazi Health’s values of Professionalism, Respect, Innovation, Development and ExcellenceEndorses and models a strengths-based, community centered model of careProvides direct oversight of Mental Health Recovery Center operationsWorks with SEMHC managers and outpatient nursing coordinators in setting goals and makes recommendations regarding additions to program and / or reallocation of staffing resourcesConceptualizes and develops consumer satisfaction and performance improvement initiativesEstablishes quality / outcome indicators for Mental Health Recovery Center and regularly assesses progress, reporting outcomes to the SEMHC Senior Leadership Team , SEMHC Quality Council, or other settingsEnsures client care follows established best practices, regulatory expectations, and billing complianceReports and collaborates on budgets, financial analysis, and clinical operations with the Chief Operating OfficerAssists with the implementation and coordination of operational changes to meet financial goals including, but not be limited to, clinical operations, staffing changes, policy and procedure changes, and regulatory changesUnderstands and is accountable for nursing practice and standards for all who deliver nursing and patient care; knowledgeable of the Indiana Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association Code of EthicsEnsures practice of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, medical assistants, and population coordinators meets nursing practice and nursing standardsCollaborates with the Director of Clinical Services and Director of the Ackerman Cener in the development and implementation of training related to best practices, regulatory requirements, and evidence-based practicesKnowledge, Skills & Abilities
