Pay Rate : The expected starting base pay for this role is USD $145,000-$155,000.00 per year. The actual base is dependent upon many factors, such as : training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

SUMMARY

This is a high-profile role for a full-cycle product professional with product development, product management and associated field support responsibility. This role will be key to helping us build technology platforms that both move the industry forward and expand Positek’s position as thought leaders.

Responsible for managing sustaining engineering as well as defining, driving and executing a forward-thinking product roadmap, you’ll bring a new level of discipline to our existing product development team to drive technical and business success. We work in the commercial laundry space, so your knowledge of PLC’s, industrial communication protocols, real time embedded systems, cloud computing architecture, data analytics, and mechanical systems will be used on a daily basis. Our solutions affect our customers production process, so some level of fieldwork is necessary to inform product decisions. Reporting to you will be experienced in-house and corporate development teams as well as customer facing technical support.

Essential Functions of the position include, but are not limited to;

  • Plans and directs the work of highly skilled and experienced engineering staff, placing particular emphasis on development to achieve product engineering objectives.
  • Confers with, and counsels from a technical perspective, product and sales teams to consider market potential for new products. Develops new products from initial concept to testing and full production through product support phase and product end-of-life support.
  • Develops and enhances the RFID solution portfolio strategy and assures all product lines relate back to the overall business strategy.
  • Guides development teams in defining product architecture and key design concepts.
  • Holds development and field service teams accountable for delivering product documentation and adhering to version control methodologies.
  • Analyzes competitors and their products; collects and analyzes customer feedback to identify requirements and priorities.
  • Establishes strategies for product pricing and positioning.
  • Structures the product management team and associated product development processes to be quick, efficient and responsive to market needs.
  • Organizes engineering teams to accomplish goals efficiently.
  • Monitors progress of projects and confers with mechanical, electrical and sustaining engineers, and provides technical, as well as schedule, direction to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Provides clear and concise status updates to leadership as well as communication with employees on duties, expectations and performance.
  • Executes the product strategy and roadmap for HW and SW aspects of products, actively collaborating with and supporting HW and SW teams, both internal and external.
  • Provides feedback regarding Product Requirements Documents (PRD) to advise of and minimize technically impractical requirements.
  • Manages the creation of Product Development Plan (PDP) and Product Specification Documents (PSD), highlighting differences with the PRD as well as technical tradeoffs associated various technical approaches to meet the PRD.
  • Supports beta and pilot programs with early-stage products and samples, providing input to success criteria and technical support during beta and pilot projects.
  • Oversees and provides support for generation of technical documentation and reviews for technical accuracy.
  • Manages changes in regulatory requirements that affect the product, taking appropriate actions to ensure it remains in compliance.
  • Manages product Engineering Changes (ECs), ensuring all stakeholders are informed of the changes.
  • Manages Custom Engineering Change Requests.
  • Recommends cost reduction and feature enhancements, based on engineering viewpoint.
  • Works with external third parties, when necessary, and provides technical guidance via PS (Purchase Specification) and custom development objectives.
  • Maintains a positive can-do attitude, and acts as a technical leader within the company.
  • Directs and oversees product quality assurance.
  • Regular work site attendance.
  • Customarily and regularly exercises independent discretion and judgment.

Manager / Supervisor Duties and Responsibilities :

Manages 3-6 subordinate employees in the RFID department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Works with Human Resources to recruit, interview, select, hire, and employ an appropriate number of employees.
  • Performance management duties :
  • Coaches, mentors and develops staff, including overseeing new employee onboarding and providing career development planning and opportunities.

    Communicates job expectations; plans, monitors; coaches, counsels, and disciplines employees; developing, coordinating, and enforcing systems, policies, procedures, and productivity standards.

  • Empowers employees to take responsibility for their jobs and goals. Delegates responsibility and expects accountability and regular feedback.
  • Provides effective performance feedback through employee recognition, rewards, and disciplinary action, with the assistance of Human Resources, when necessary.
  • Leads employees using a performance management and development process that provides an overall context and framework to encourage employee contribution and includes goal setting, feedback, and performance development planning.
  • Leads employees to meet the organization's expectations for productivity, quality, and goal accomplishment.
  • Maintains employee work schedules including assignments, training, vacations and paid time off, remote work, cover for absenteeism, and overtime scheduling.
  • Continuously communicates information through department / one-on-one meetings and email.
  • Maintains a safe, secure, and legal work environment.

  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • In-depth working knowledge of PC-based hardware and software platforms running Windows or Linux, cloud-based platforms, and networking. Knowledge of real-time embedded hardware and software system design.
  • Knowledge of industrial sensor technologies such as encoders, proximity sensors, Time of Flight sensors, and other common technologies.
  • Experience with both Mechanical and Electrical design and support.
  • Highly organized and able to generate and follow standard processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications and documentation skills to all audience levels.
  • Process oriented, consistency in setting and following path to resolution.
  • Maintains detailed records of activities.
  • Set and follow issue / project prioritization.
  • Excellent team player, problem solver with a high level of self-motivation and initiative.
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.

  • EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE

  • BS in Engineering required – electrical or software preferred, mechanical or electronic acceptable.
  • 10 yrs. minimum experience in engineering development and support of real-time embedded hardware and software, Windows and Linux based software applications, cloud-based software, mechanical hardware, and field implementation.
  • 5 yrs. minimum experience in an engineering leadership role.
  • Project management skills / experience required.
  • COMPUTER SKILLS

    Demonstrate ability to effectively use computer and applicable computer software. Advanced knowledge of Excel, Word, Adobe, PowerPoint, and Outlook required. Familiarity with various engineering software tools such as CAD, protocol analyzers, server performance monitoring, version control software, and other common engineering software packages.

    TRAVEL

    Must be able and willing to travel (up to 20%) meeting and supporting customers and potential customers, supporting field testing, and OEM integrations as required both domestically and internationally. Willing to travel by plane to locations in other states / countries.

    Valid Passport / Driver’s License / Real ID is required at all times for this position.

    Attend on-site customer appointments as needed
