Overview

State Of Vermont Probation & Parole Officers must be conscientious, self-motivated individuals with the ability to think on their feet in a fast-paced environment. You'll have a strong understanding of ethics and boundaries as well as the ability to communicate and work in a team setting.

Understanding of victim awareness, risk intervention strategies, and case planning practices, plus the ability to maintain a professional rapport with local law-enforcement agencies and community partners is a must. This position will work with the Youthful Offender caseload along with a high-risk adult caseload. This position works closely with DCF-Family Services. This position is Monday-Friday 8 : 00am-4 : 30pm with possibility of overtime. Prior Corrections, law-enforcement, or military experience is preferred for the position of Probation and Parole Officer II at the Barre Probation and Parole Office. The work will be performed in an office setting with field work required.

Must attend six weeks of instruction at the Vermont Correctional Academy.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in a field office, correctional and community setting and includes frequent interaction with potentially dangerous correctional clients. High stress may be present, as is some danger of assault. Evening, weekend, and alternating shift duty required to provide necessary services and supervision. Field travel is necessary and incumbents may be required to provide private means of transportation. Work related court, community meeting, and Parole Board appearances may be anticipated.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent or higher AND three (3) years or more experience in human services casework such as mental health / addiction counseling, work in a residential treatment center, juvenile justice, direct service legal work, emergency services, corrections, law enforcement, military or similar job duties

Note : Possession of a valid driver's license is required, and a criminal background check will be performed prior to hire. Certain convictions can be disqualifying.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in social work, criminal justice, human services, psychology, or a related field.
