Recovery Specialist

We are seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Recovery Specialist to join our AutoNation Finance team. As a Recovery Specialist, you will be responsible for managing and resolving delinquent auto finance accounts that are in the later stages of default. This role focuses on repossession coordination, customer resolution, recovery collections, and potential charge-off prevention. The ideal candidate has strong negotiation skills, a solid understanding of compliance standards, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

Organizational Relationships : The Recovery Specialist will report directly to the Recovery Supervisor and will collaborate closely with other members of the servicing team including Back End Collections, PCO (Potential Charge-Off), and FPD. This role may also involve coordination with third-party vendors, repossession agents, legal counsel, and internal departments such as Risk, Compliance, and Customer Service.

Job Responsibilities

• Account Management & Collections : Manage a portfolio of accounts 60-90 days past due, with a focus on high-risk, high-balance loans and repossessions. Make outbound and receive inbound calls to resolve past-due balances and avoid potential charge-offs. Negotiate payment arrangements and settlements in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Repossession & Recovery : Coordinate with repossession agents to ensure timely and compliant recovery of collateral. Document all activity related to repossession, skip tracing, and customer communication. Ensure all state and federal guidelines are followed regarding repossession and borrower communication.
• Skip Tracing & Location Efforts : Perform skip tracing to locate customers and vehicles using various tools and databases. Identify and escalate potential fraud or misrepresentation concerns.
• Customer Communication & Support : Maintain professional and empathetic communication with customers in sensitive or escalated situations. Provide education on account status, potential consequences, and available options.
• Compliance & Documentation : Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely documentation of all account activity in servicing systems. Ensure compliance with FDCPA, CFPB, UDAAP, and other regulatory requirements.
