Summary

The Enterostomal Therapist aids hospital staff and physicians in the care of patients with stomas, draining wounds, fistulae, incontinence, or potential or actual tissue trauma. Manages patients with post-operative surgical wounds requiring packing or negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), pressure ulcers and vascular ulcers. Provides support and education to patients and their families, including pre and post-operative teaching, wound care, ostomy care, and ostomy appliance maintenance / trouble-shooting.

Responsibilities

• Provides acute and rehabilitative care for people with selective disorders of the gastrointestinal, genitourinary, and integument systems in inpatient and outpatient settings.
• Provides patient / family education.
• Assists providers with examinations, procedures and other processes related to direct patient care and maintains appropriate patient documentation, records, and charts.
• Follows and performs all related unit specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit specific competency check-list.
• Utilizes job and unit specific equipment as required.
• Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect and Expertise).
• Performs all other related job duties as assigned.

Experience

Generally requires 5 to 7 years of related experience.

Preferred Experience

Education

Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
