Job Title : Direct Service Shelter Staff 1st / 2nd Shift Weekends (Casual)
Reports To : Residential Services Coordinator
FLSA Status : Non-Exempt (Casual Hourly)
This position is responsible for handling the front office in a shelter environment which operates 24 / 7 / 365. This includes meeting the immediate needs of the guests and visitors. A person in this position will actively participate in shelter activities and operations that assist guests. A person in this position acts as point person between the guests, internal case managers, and other departments to effectively communicate and document guest needs, events, incidents, and concerns.
This position requires a high level of communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and de- escalation skills, while requiring minimal supervision.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
High level of customer service is critical to perform all tasks successfullyCommunicate residence rules to clients and enforce rules as necessaryRespond to questions and concerns from clients, staff, donors, volunteers, and guestsHandle time sensitive guest and staff needsCommunicate professionally and effectively, completing documentation in an effective and prompt manner per guidelinesObserve and report client activities, concerns, and non compliance using appropriate communication processFollow all agency and mandated guidelines related to security, safety, confidentiality, and all departmental policies and proceduresHandle admissions procedures regarding intake, late list and coordinated entry protocolsResponsible for security check of all guests to ensure safety in the buildingAttend all department and assigned all staff meetings, as well as assigned trainingsModel respectful conduct and interactions with guests, visitors and colleaguesParticipate in scheduled dorm sweeps with case management staff as assigned. Report on sweep findings and actions taken to case managementEnsure effective and professional communication for guest information throughout all relevant departmentsSort, log and distribute mail to mailboxes and complete office administrative tasksDocument and review all relevant information in communication logs and complete all documentation / paperwork in a timely mannerResponsible for monitoring dining room and kitchen cleanlinessAnswer phonesPerform tasks on the computer as needed, including checking and responding to emailsPerform other duties as assigned by Lead Direct Service Support Specialist, RS Coordinator, and Manager of Residential ServicesMust be able to respond swiftly to emergency situations including leading evacuation and interventionsExperience and Skills :
Experience and history working in human services environment, preferably working with male clients who have experienced homelessnessExperience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness and substance abuse issuesAbility to communicate and document clearly and professionally : both verbally and in writingDemonstration of critical thinking and problem solving skillsProfessional workplace appearance and conductMust be proficient in basic Microsoft programsFlexible work schedule and dependabilityEffective time managementExperience working with clients in crisis and versed in de- escalationTraining and Education :
