Overview
The Engineering Manager oversees the engineering team responsible for designing, developing, and supporting industrial refrigeration systems and projects. This role leads technical project execution, ensures compliance with industry standards and regulations, and drives innovation and process improvement. The Engineering Manager collaborates closely with project management, sales, service, and field teams to deliver high-quality solutions to customers.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of engineers (mechanical, electrical, controls) in the design and development of industrial refrigeration systems.
- Oversee preparation of engineering documents, including P&IDs, equipment specifications, layout drawings, and bills of materials.
- Ensure projects meet technical specifications, budget, timeline, and safety requirements.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to engineering staff.
- Support project estimation and proposals by reviewing client requirements and contributing to system design concepts and cost estimates.
- Coordinate with other departments (Project Management, Procurement, Service) to ensure seamless project execution.
- Maintain knowledge of industry standards, codes (e.g., IIAR, ASHRAE, OSHA), and emerging technologies.
- Manage workload allocation, team development, and performance evaluations.
- Drive process improvements, standardization, and quality control within engineering operations.
- Support troubleshooting and resolution of complex technical issues in the field as needed.
- Participate in client meetings and presentations to explain technical solutions and answer engineering-related questions.
Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain one.Extensive knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems, especially ammonia and CO2 technologies.Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit to be able to manage team.Strong understanding of industry codes and standards (IIAR, ASHRAE, OSHA, ASME).Excellent leadership and team management capabilities.Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.Effective problem-solving and analytical skills for troubleshooting complex systems.Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.Familiarity with project management software (e.g., MS Project).Experience collaborating across departments such as sales, project management, and field service.Ability to travel occasionally for site visits, client meetings, and project support.Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field (Master's degree a plus).Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.7+ years of engineering experience in industrial refrigeration, HVAC, or related industries.3+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.In-depth knowledge of ammonia and / or CO2 refrigeration systems design and safety standards.Strong understanding of industrial refrigeration components : compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, valves, and control systems.Proficiency with AutoCAD and Revit.Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.Willingness to travel occasionally to job sites or client facilities.Equipment & Physical Requirements
Use standard office equipment (computer, phone, printer, etc.) for daily tasks and communication.Operate and review engineering software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks) for design and documentation.Occasionally perform site visits, requiring the ability to navigate industrial environments safely.Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when visiting job sites, such as hard hats, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, and hearing protection.Physically inspect equipment installations, requiring bending, climbing ladders, walking through mechanical rooms, and accessing tight spaces.Safely handle and review specifications for refrigeration system components, including compressors, valves, piping, and control devices.Maintain awareness of safety procedures around ammonia, CO2, and other industrial refrigerants.Occasionally lift materials or equipment weighing up to 25-50 pounds during site inspections or reviews.Travel as needed to project sites, customer facilities, or vendor locations.Computer Skills
Proficiency with engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks) for creating and reviewing technical drawings.Competence in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for documentation, reporting, and communication.Ability to use project management software (e.g., MS Project) to track schedules and resources.Experience with document management systems for organizing engineering files and records.Comfortable working with ERP or business management systems for project tracking and budgeting.Skilled in using PDF markup tools (e.g., Bluebeam) for reviewing plans and specifications.Basic understanding of controls or PLC software tools (a plus but not always required).Ability to quickly learn new software or digital tools relevant to engineering and project management.Strong keyboarding and data-entry skills for efficiency and accuracy.We're unable to determine at this time whether the role is still accepting applications.
