American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Medical Surgical Oncology unit position requiring a NC or compact RN license and strong Med / Surg skills.
\n \n Responsibilities\n
Work in a Medical Surgical Oncology unit within a hospital settingCare for primarily med / surg patients with oncology history, including chemotherapy / biotherapy administration via IV, PO, or injectionTypical patient diagnoses include AKI, sepsis, cancer, septic shock, malignant neoplasms, ARF, encephalopathy, FTT, diabetic foot ulcers, and heparin dripsTarget nurse-to-patient ratio is 1 : 6, with possible increases during high census periodsNight shifts (3x12 hours) with every other weekend requiredFloating required to similar inpatient units and alternate care locations such as inpatient holding in the EDCall required if called off on a prescheduled shiftUnit uses Pyxis for medication dispensing, Epic for documentation, and SBAR for communication13-week contract minimum with possibility for up to 26 weeksExpected to work as part of the Storm / Hurricane Team in catastrophic eventsResponsible for comprehensive care including chemotherapy / biotherapy administration, wound care, and management of complex medical-surgical diagnosesContract staff assigned equally to ensure balanced patient coverage with staff nursesOrientation consists of 24 hours (2 shifts)Monthly staff meeting attendance requiredMust complete modules and training prior to start and annuallyNavy blue and white scrubs requiredNo RTO allowed during orientation week; up to 7 days RTO may be approved if not on a holidayRequired to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during contractFirst time travelers acceptedFatigue policy limits work to no more than 5 consecutive days or 60 hours in a week\n \n Requirements\n
Active NC or compact RN license required at time of start (pending license OK for consideration)Minimum 2 years of inpatient Med / Surg experience requiredBasic Life Support (BLS) certification requiredExperience with colostomy care, accessing ports, blood product administration, central line and peripheral line management, PICC line management, heparin and insulin administration, surgical drains, chest tubes, non-invasive airway management, isolation precautions, and wound care / wound vacEpic charting experience requiredMust pass EKG testing prior to startPrevious employment at Novant Health or New Hanover requires a 12 month waiting period before eligibility for travel assignmentsLocal candidates (within 50 miles) are eligible at a different pay rate\n Benefits\n
