Audit Intern Position
We are currently looking to fill an Audit Intern position in Olympia, WA. The start date for the internship would be January 2026. We offer a chance to make a difference in how government operates. Team Olympia is one of 17 local audit teams within the Office of the Washington State Auditor and is responsible for conducting audits in Thurston, Grays Harbor, Lewis and Pacific Counties. Local audit teams conduct accountability, financial and single (federal grant compliance) audits on a wide array of entity types including cities, counties, school districts, hospitals, public utility districts, risk pools, fire districts, ports, special facility districts, and more. Our clients range greatly in size and include both GAAP and BARS Cash Basis reporting methods. Team Olympia's mission is to partner with entities to increase trust in government. We do that by producing efficient and high-quality audits through collaboration and teamwork, providing meaningful recommendations that entities can understand, and building positive relationships through strong communication, education and mutual respect. To aid in employees' success, we provide access to numerous internal resources, trainings, a robust mentoring program and the opportunity work alongside experienced staff to assist in developing important audit skills.
Some of what you will do :
We offer seasonal and year-round paid internships with our audit teams across the state. The start and length of internships is flexible. Travel to audit sites will be necessary. Interns work with our audit staff and perform audit tests, analyze data, communicate with entity staff, and provide support for more complex audit procedures. Interns may be involved in several small assignments or one large assignment over the course of the internship.
Qualifications :
Enrolled in an accredited college or university
Completed their sophomore year
Completed some accounting course work
OR
One year experience in accounting - paid or unpaid
One year of professional experience
OR
Combination of accounting experience and school
AND
Have strong computer skills
Have strong written and verbal communication skills
