Atlantis Computer Centers is a technicaltraining center. It started as a revenuesource to fund software development projectsthat could be licensed or sold. Theinitial company had three sectors : theprimary focus of software development, thenetwork service carry over from SanibelSolutions, and the new technical trainingsegment.
Atlantis' goal was to utilize the economies ofscale by using it's developers to teach theprogramming classes, and it's field engineers toteach the high-end networking classes. Contract instructors were brought in for certainspecialty classes, which field engineers wererequired to sit. The idea was that byteaching, field engineers would be forced tostay up on the latest material and know itbetter than their counterparts in the field. At the same time, students would have thebenefit of having engineers with real dailyexperience to draw from, as well as theopportunity to intern in the field.
When the other two sectors did notperform to expectations, Dan left in December2002 to start Network Security Testing, Inc.,which evolved to Anik, Incorporated, a network performance andsecurity testing and analysis company. Atlantis continued asa training center, run by its remainingofficers, Andrea Fournace and Nick Singh, untilNovember of 2003.
Dan developed many strong ties to the ITcommunity during his time at Atlantis. This was partly done by the IT Lunch Groups, agroup of CIO's, CTO's, IT and Telecom directorsthat Dan started with the help of Jack Choate,IT Director for Gulf Coast Village. Thisgroup has brought in speakers from all over thecountry on topics such as security, wireless, infrastructure, telecom, and VoIP. Through these groups, Dan has sharpened andbroadened his skills, as well as developedstrong relationships with law enforcement andother government agencies, as well as local companiesand national vendors.
