The Production Planner is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the production process in manufacturing, including planning workflows, managing inventory levels, scheduling production runs, allocating resources, and monitoring timelines to ensure efficient production and timely delivery of machined and finished goods. A successful Production Planner is detail-oriented, proactive, and adept at forecasting and planning. These qualities ensure that the supply chain operates smooth and efficiently, supporting the company's overall operational goals.
Your Impact
- Coordinate with department supervisors and managers to create detailed production schedules based on sales forecasts, customer orders, and available capacity, including assigning tasks to production teams and setting deadlines.
- Managing inventory by monitoring material levels to standard and avoid shortages or excess inventory.
- Utilize computer software for planning, creating purchase orders, and inventory management to accurately track material flow.
- Identifying and resolving discrepancies between inventory records and stock levels.
- Working closely with various departments to coordinate production activities and forecast future material needs based on production schedules and orders.
- Communicate any delays in due dates with customer service team.
- Identifying and resolving production bottlenecks, delays, and other issues that may impact production schedules.
- Build and manage relationships with suppliers to negotiate optimal terms of service.
- Conducting regular audits to ensure data integrity and compliance with industry standards and best practices are kept.
- Tracking production costs identifying areas for cost reduction.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma, GED, or EquivalentStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsProficiency in production planning software preferredExcellent communication and interpersonal skills necessaryUnderstanding of manufacturing processes and operationsInventory management expertiseProven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlinesProven experience in materials management and production planning preferredProfessional certifications such as Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) preferredStrong proficiency in database management and / or relevant enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems preferredSolid organizational skillsAdditional Success Factors
