Job Summary :
This Department Research Operations Manager position will be primarily responsible for managing the Department of Emergency Medicine research administration, research staffing, operational processes, and infrastructure, under the leadership of the Vice Chair / Associate Vice Chairs for Research. The Department of Emergency Medicine has a large, diverse research portfolio of over $40 million from funders such as the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute, health foundations, and others. There are 27 research faculty and more than 50 research staff across 11 teams and programs. Research domains span clinical trials, pragmatic research, health services research, basic animal research, epidemiology, clinical informatics, public health research, and implementation science. Ensuring efficiency, adherence to university and funder policies and regulatory requirements, and supporting career development, healthy teams, collaboration, and innovation are a major goal of the department research enterprise.
Research Administration- 40%
Manage and coordinate agendas for research meetings and events.
In collaboration with appropriate research administrative team members, support research faculty and staff in accessing and understanding research administration resources and procedures.
Manage communication between research staff, departmental administration, and research leadership.
Oversee research intranet content and support research website maintenance and updates.
Manage orientation, onboarding, career development, and annual performance evaluation processes for research staff.
Develop and maintain departmental onboarding and orientation documents in collaboration with department human resources administrative staff.
Research Staffing & Talent Management - 40%
Manage research staffing assignments across multiple projects and investigators.
Lead and support strategic recruitment planning and hiring of research staff for multiple investigators.
Maintain oversight of current and future study staffing needs, ensuring adequate coverage and skill alignment.
Collaborate with research operations staff, human resources, procurement, and departmental administration to ensure timely and cost-effective execution of staffing initiatives.
Research Operations & Infrastructure - 20%
Monitor and maintain departmental research listservs and research databases.
Support strategic planning and oversight of departmental research infrastructure.
Support and maintain procedures for research regulatory and IT processes.
Support preparation of departmental research proposal components.
Identify and lead new initiatives to strengthen departmental research operations.
Work Location :
Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications :
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
Five (5) years clinical research or related experience that includes :
Three (3) years of supervisory or management experience in a clinical or health services research setting
A combination of education and related technical / paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in science or health related field
Clinical, health services, or related research project regulatory process administration (e.g., IRB application submission) for NIH, DOD, PCORI, and other funders
Experience with research electronic data capture systems and / or electronic medical records data (e.g. or EHR and data management systems)
Clinical, health services, or related research project management experience with multidisciplinary teams
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
Ability to set goals, motivate team members to achieve results
Knowledge of supervisory techniques, management principles, and organizational leadership
Expert knowledge and understanding of federal regulations and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution
Outstanding customer service skills
Ability to interpret and master complex research protocol information

Anticipated Pay Range :
The starting salary range ( or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $71,244 - $90,622.
The above salary range ( or hiring range ) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
