MISSION
To lead Ryerson’s second shift operations in Carrollton with clarity, urgency, and team cohesion—ensuring high-quality metal product fulfillment, line productivity, and on-time distribution across Texas and regional markets. This role is critical to the operational heartbeat between first and third shift—and to building the leadership bridge that sustains safety, output, and morale.
This is not just a shift job. It is a human leadership role for a veteran who thrives in structure, decision-making, and team development. The right leader here will shape the morale, safety, and effectiveness of Ryerson’s second shift—and serve as the hinge between production and delivery. You will be trusted, stretched, and remembered.
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
Fulfill daily outbound orders with >
95% accuracy and on-time staging for third-shift loadouts and regional dispatch (DFW, Waco, West TX, Houston, Denver).
Run metal processing lines (plate, sheet, bar) at target productivity levels by shift and work center; identify and address under-performance in real time.
Build second-shift team cohesion across 12–15 personnel—ensure all teammates understand their role, cross-train as needed, and feel ownership of mission success.
Bridge inter-shift operations : coordinate seamless hand-off from first shift and ensure readiness for third shift; maintain real-time visibility of demand, backlogs, and machine uptime.
Lead shift startup and closeout : conduct roll calls, assign work based on real-time demand and capacity, and close each shift with a clear pass-down.
Drive data visibility and continuous improvement : use system reports to set productivity benchmarks (orders / hour by bay), coach toward them, and celebrate performance wins.
FIT TRAITS
Leadership : Prior NCO or team leader experience—able to set tempo and drive accountability without micromanagement.
Service-Oriented : Sees the mission as larger than the role; committed to the team’s development, not just output.
Growth-Minded : Comfortable managing up, down, and across shifts; seeks feedback and drives process clarity.
Ownership Mentality : Doesn’t wait to be told—owns the outcome, adjusts in real time, and takes pride in the team’s success.
