Entry Parks Maintenance Workers

As a Parks Maintenance Worker, you'll be an integral part of maintaining the beauty and functionality of our local parks and green spaces. A few of your daily tasks may include :

• Perform general grounds maintenance to ensure parks and City properties remain clean, safe, and well-kept
• Mow, trim, weed, prune, and maintain turf areas, including aerating, seeding, and fertilizing
• Collect and dispose of litter to maintain a clean and inviting environment for visitors
• Assist in the inspection, upkeep, and maintenance of City playgrounds
• Install and repair irrigation systems as needed
• Prepare soccer, t-ball, and other sports fields for gameplay
• Collaborate with team members to prioritize tasks and complete assignments efficiently

The Parks Maintenance team plays a vital role in maintaining the City of Leawood’s parks for everyone to enjoy throughout the year. You will perform a wide range of general park maintenance, from turf management, maintaining athletic fields, irrigation systems, playgrounds, and park trails. You will have a work-life balance where your schedule will be 6 : 30 a.m. to 3 : 00 p.m. Monday through Friday with some scheduled overtime.

Minimum Requirements : Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record per the City’s drivers Use of Vehicles for City Business policy throughout employment with the City.

Preferred Requirements : Two (2) years of experience in parks or turf maintenance.  Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brakes and tanker endorsements.

Starting Rate of Pay :   $21.42 -$23.00 / hourly, DOQ

The City of Leawood offers career development opportunities that could increase the employee's experience, training, and pay. The position is eligible to receive pay increases every year. Employees also receive a Time-in-Service Bonus equal to 5% of their annual salary every three years of employment on their anniversary date.
