Pre-Operative Registered Nurse

The Pre-Operative Registered Nurse provides exceptional patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized nursing plans in a hospital setting. This role involves supervising and delegating tasks to non-RN staff, functioning in various capacities such as triage and charge nurse, and contributing to education and emergency services as required. These core principles should guide our actions every day, both as individuals and professionals.\n\nReporting to the PCS Manager / Clinical Coordinator, the Registered Nurse (RN) is a vital member of the healthcare team, committed to excellent clinical care and outstanding customer service. The RN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, and overseeing patient care in line with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. This role includes supervising and delegating appropriate tasks to non-RN personnel on the assigned unit. When assigned the charge nurse role, the RN will delegate and supervise unit activities according to defined expectations. The RN may also be cross-trained to function in New London ED / Psychiatric Emergency Services and Pequot Emergency Departments as necessary. Other duties may be assigned to maintain high service levels.\n\nResponsibilities\n

• Continuously assess patients' physical and psychosocial conditions throughout their care continuum.\n
• Develop, communicate, and document a personalized Plan of Care addressing individual patient needs, involving the patient, family, and healthcare team.\n
• Implement and coordinate the Plan of Care in collaboration with the healthcare team.\n
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the Plan of Care and revise as needed based on patient responses and readiness for discharge.\n
• Plan educational sessions after assessing the learning needs and readiness of patients and families, documenting outcomes.\n
• Function as a psychiatric emergency nurse, triage nurse, or charge nurse when authorized.\n
• Serve as a preceptor for new staff once authorized.\n
• Meet performance expectations in customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and professional development as outlined in performance reviews.\n
• Perform additional duties as directed to ensure smooth department / unit operations.\n
• Recognize scope of responsibilities and operate within the limitations of the job description, demonstrating competency in relevant clinical and technical skills and executing appropriate emergency nursing actions.\n\nQualifications\n\nEDUCATION : \nGraduate of an accredited nursing school; BSN preferred. Proficient in electronic patient records and internet literature searches related to patient care.\n\nEXPERIENCE : \nPrevious emergency department experience preferred.\n\nLICENSURE : \nValid State of Connecticut Registered Nurse license required.\n\nSPECIAL SKILLS : \nCurrent BLS certification required upon hire. ACLS and PALS are required within 6 months of hire. CPI is required within 1 year of hire. TNCC and CEN are strongly preferred.
