SUMMARY The Manager, Grant Administration, will oversee the financial administration of public funds from state and federal funders, as well as provide leadership and direction to program staff to ensure that the law school meets all compliance and reporting requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Project manage an existing group of state and federal funders who provide more than $1 million on average in annual financial support for the law school.
  • Assess the potential of new prospective sources for state and federal funding in support of organizational priorities and needs.
  • Oversee and manage the grant lifecycle, beginning with the development of grant budgets, monthly and / or quarterly budget monitoring and reporting, project audits, budget realignments, and grant closing and final reporting.
  • Partner with business units across the organization to gather and synthesize inputs, develop grant budgets, outcome measures, and supporting documentation for the grant application and reporting process.
  • Thoroughly review grant agreements and donor requirements and work with Program teams to monitor compliance.
  • Monitor budget expenditures to ensure compliance with donor requirements and restrictions.
  • In collaboration with law school leadership, assist with labor allocations and budget realignments.
  • Prepare financial reports for submission to funders per required reporting schedules and reporting requirements.
  • Maintain all grant-related documentation, including grant agreements and other materials pertaining to grant awards.
  • Assists in the coordinates and preparation audit schedules, including those for the annual audit and the schedules of expenditure for Federal and State awards during the OMB Circular A-133 audit.
  • Monitors restricted and sponsored award accounts for reasonableness, allowability, allocability and consistent treatment of costs and initiates corrections as needed.
  • Leverage research, data, and narrative to create strategic and compelling illustrations of need and funding requests.
  • Assist with forecasting for the grant fiscal year, contribute to programmatic budget planning, and contribute to organizational financial forecasting.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing / Communications department as needed to develop content and materials for applications and required reporting.

The person must be flexible and show initiative, have the ability to work independently and the skills necessary to thrive in a team environment to achieve institutional goals. Must be computer literate with proficiency in MS Office applications. Must be detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment. Experience working in Banner or a similar ERP system required.

EDUCATION And / or EXPERIENCE A Bachelor's degree is required. Minimum of five years of experience in grant writing, technical writing, or fund development. Experience in an institution of higher education, or an environment of similar complexity, is preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to distill complex information concisely and craft coherent, persuasive narratives with data and storytelling techniques. Skill in working and connecting with a diverse group of colleagues and partners. Ability to oversee and manage multiple projects simultaneously, work independently under tight deadlines, prioritize responsibilities, and identify and resolve conflicts in a timely and appropriate manner.

Language Skills Proficient in both spoken and written English. Ability to interpret and explain complex data. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate in one-on-one and small group situations to students, alumni, faculty, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills Ability to perform basic to intermediate math essential.

REASONING ABILITY Ability to define routine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions to solve routine problems and / or deal with a variety of variables in situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision in order to accurately input data and proofread; distance vision in order to recognize and assist visitors to the department.
