Overview

Quality Engineer / Quality Controller (Contract to Hire)

Location : Belvidere, IL

Contract Length : 6 months (with potential to hire)

Pay Rate : Up to $70 / hour (no travel reimbursement)

Position Overview

Stratosphere Quality is seeking a highly skilled Quality Engineer / Quality Controller to join our team on a 6-month contract, with the potential to convert to full-time. This role is critical to ensuring our products meet the highest standards of quality while supporting ISO compliance and driving process improvements.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Perform quality assessments on incoming materials and outgoing products per documented inspection standards.

Reject nonconforming materials / products and complete appropriate reject documentation.

Organize and maintain inspection reports and records from internal inspection teams.

Lead the Pre-Shipment Inspection (PSI) process, ensuring accurate documentation and timely communication with inspectors.

Manage the company’s ISO certification process : conduct internal audits, coordinate with external auditors, and support ISO-related improvements across the organization.

Communicate with customers’ quality and procurement departments to resolve nonconformance issues.

Read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications to determine product requirements.

Measure product dimensions, evaluate functionality, and verify compliance with specifications.

Recommend and implement improvements to production and inspection processes to enhance quality, reduce risk, and improve cost efficiency.

Collaborate with production teams to create and deliver training plans for productivity and compliance.

Troubleshoot and resolve quality-related issues quickly and effectively.

Qualifications

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Familiarity with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards required.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.

Strong math skills, including metric / English conversions.

Experience with audits, inspections, and quality documentation preferred.
