Truck Driver I

EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES. This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST JEFFERSON vacancies in various departments as they occur. NOTE : Selective certification of eligible applicants with a valid Louisiana Class D (or higher) driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference in filling this vacancy.

Truck Driver I's are responsible for the safe and efficient operation of a pick-up truck, crew truck, 1 1 / 2 to 3 ton stake bodies, ordinary single axle dumps (4 to 6 yds.) or 3 axle straight truck. Drives vehicle to pick up and deliver various types of cargo wet or dry. Loads and unloads the vehicle and performs related duties as required. This position is an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or their designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish. NOTE : Some positions may be required to operate a vehicle which requires a Class B CDL; in that case selective certification of eligible applicants with a Louisiana Class "B" Commercial Driver's License would be used in filling those vacancies. For the current vacancy in the General Services Department, the employee drives a high-cube box truck daily and a heavy duty truck with utility and flatbed trailer, making deliveries and pick-ups of parish property. This vacancy loads and unloads the truck for deliveries of furnishings, equipment, and supplies to parish facilities. Uses a hand-truck or pallet-jack to load shipment crates or boxes into the delivery truck, and for lifting shipment crates and transferring items from one crate to another. The employee is responsible for keeping the vehicle fueled and clean. Maintains forms and reports on vehicles. Employee may be required to work adjusted hours, start earlier, and work evenings and / or weekends as duties require or as directed.

Applicants must possess a current Louisiana Class E driver's license (or higher) and an acceptable driving record PLUS meet one of the following options : I. Current Jefferson Parish employment and permanent civil service status.

II. At least one (1) year of verifiable experience in the safe and efficient operation of a truck in a work capacity.

• NOTE : A valid Class E (or higher) driver's license from a state other than Louisiana is acceptable for application; however, once an employment offer is extended, an applicant has ten (10) days to obtain the required Louisiana driver's license. Failure to obtain a Louisiana license will disqualify an applicant for permanent employment in this position.
