SUPERVISES : No supervisory role. A supervisor is responsible for direction of associates' workflow, conducting performance appraisals, and has hiring and termination decision-making abilities.
CAREGIVER STATUS : Direct Caregiver. A Caregiver is an employee who provides direct patient care, hands-on care, or has skin-to-skin contact with patients.
JOB SUMMARY :
- The Registered Nurse (RN) administers nursing care to patients and / or plans, directs and coordinates the nursing care of a group of patients utilizing the nursing process and in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- The RN instructs patients and / or families in procedures, healthcare practices and continuing care after discharge.
- The RN performs duties and responsibilities in a manner adhering to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures and in compliance with professional practice standards, regulatory bodies and the Indiana State Nurse Practice Act.

Shifts on this unit are 12 hours for this job description. ADDITIONAL LICENSURE / CREDENTIAL REQUIREMENTS : STABLE Certification preferred AWHONN Fetal Monitoring preferred.
ADDITIONAL EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS : Mandatory Annual Continuing Education : Customer Service, Fire and Safety, Confidentiality-HIPAA, Infection Control, Corporate Compliance. Annual Unit Specific Competencies, and any education required by Regulatory Accreditation Agencies, Scope of Practice, and / or Hancock Regional Hospital. - while available Step Two Breast Feeding Education and K2 Fetal Monitoring Education Software
PHYSICAL / MENTAL DEMANDS :
Assist ambulatory patients independentlyLift to 50 lbs. independently and for weights greater than 50 lbs. must use mechanical device or team lifting.Push / Pull patients of up to 250 lbs. in a wheeled device and for weights greater than 250 lbs. must use team assistance.Hearing requirements include but are not limited to hearing and responding quickly to sounds such as monitors, phones, equipment alarms or patients calling for assistance, ability to auscultate B / P and heart rate.The ability to wear personal protective gear / equipment when applicable.Sitting up to one hour of a shift for computer documentation, or written reports.Standing up to 1 / 3 of a shift and walking more than 2 / 3 of shift.Vision requirements include but are not limited to close vision, distant vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus. This may include ability to read thermometers, electronic scales, etc.Lift from floor to waist and shoulder equipment weighing up to 20 lbs. (examples : VAX, defibrillators, SCDs, CPMs)EQUIPMENT USED : Accucheck, Wheelchair, Portable VS monitor, Computer, Pyxis, IV pumps, Scales, Beds, Infant Security System, Vapotherm, Skytron Lighting, Radiant Warmers, NeoPuff, Phototherapy BiliChek Device, Hearing Screening Fetal Monitors, Doppler, Portable Ultrasound, Hemorrhage Cart and Anesthesia Cart.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS : Able to process data and make decisions to support the mission and vision of Hancock Regional Hospital. Assist in identifying concerns and help to work on solutions to improve the quality of care for our patients and associates.
