Payroll Specialist : Rockford, IL

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to join our client’s team. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for both union and non-union employees, as well as maintaining compliance with labor laws, union agreements, and prevailing wage requirements. The ideal candidate will bring experience in construction or skilled trades payroll, a strong understanding of certified payroll reporting, and the ability to manage the complexities of union reporting and job costing.

Key Responsibilities :

• Process weekly payroll for union and non-union employees using MEPSoft
• Verify and code timecards accurately to jobs and cost codes
• Maintain employee records, including tax forms, garnishments, deductions, and direct deposits
• Prepare and submit certified payroll reports, ensuring Davis-Bacon and prevailing wage law compliance
• Manage monthly union reports and weekly / monthly 401(k) / pension reporting
• Track and maintain records of PTO, sick leave, and overtime
• Partner with field supervisors and project managers to resolve timekeeping discrepancies
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws
• Support audits (workers’ comp, union, government) as needed
• Assist with quarterly / annual filings such as W-2’s, 941’s, and 1095’s
• Update payroll systems for annual union contract changes

Pay : $24.00 - $31.25 / hour, depending on experience

Type : Full-time, 1st Shift, On-site

Schedule : Monday – Friday, normal business hours
