Overview
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Operations Team at UtiliQuest, LLC as an Investigator. UtiliQuest is a leading provider of quality underground utility damage prevention with over three decades of experience. Headquarters are in Alpharetta, Georgia, with offices in multiple states and more than 2,800 employees. UtiliQuest is a subsidiary of Dycom Industries.
The Investigator plays a critical role in supporting Operations partners in damage prevention and quality assurance initiatives. The role requires a self-motivated professional with strong work ethic, organizational and interpersonal skills, and the ability to add value to the team from day one. The Investigator reports to the Supervisor of Quality Assurance and focuses on organizing and prioritizing tasks with emphasis on quality and integrity in the Damage Investigation process.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Operations partners to identify potential opportunities for damage prevention through the field audit process.
- Identify at-risk Field Technicians who need additional training to prevent potential damages.
- Perform field audits for accuracy of marks and compliance with applicable state laws, regulations, and contractual obligations per client.
- Correct field risk findings and coach / mentor technicians.
- Provide frequent and ongoing feedback to Field Check partners to improve quality results, reduce damages, and ensure audit requests are properly documented.
- Communicate audit and investigation findings with quality assurance and operations management, both verbally and in writing.
- Balance multiple job responsibilities while meeting daily productivity and efficiency standards and deadlines.
- Provide witness testimony in small claims and litigated cases when necessary.
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture and ensure quality standards are met.
- Maintain good working relationships with clients, excavators, regulators, employees, and the public.
- Operate company vehicles safely and maintain a professional appearance.
- Support hands-on utility locate training and education in Damage Prevention.
- Stay current on learning methodologies and technologies; may require ticket production and occasional weekend work.
- Performs other duties as needed.
What You'll Need
High School Diploma or GED equivalencyOne (1) or more years of experience locating underground utilities and / or related experienceTwo (2) or more years of experience locating underground utilities and / or related experience preferredThorough understanding of utility locating procedures, marking standards and proficiency with locate equipmentAbility to troubleshoot difficult locates and interpret all utility platsAbility to coach and mentor techniciansCritical thinking to understand problems, analyze facts, and make decisions with deadlinesExcellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate with diverse individuals at all levelsProficiency with computer-based technology and ability to learn related softwareFlexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment; respond to emergencies as neededProficient in use of hand tools (shovels, screwdrivers, wrenches, ped keys, etc.)Ability to lift and carry 3-5 lb electronic locating equipment for extended periods; capacity to lift up to 50 lbs with or without tool aidsPhysical Abilities & Exposures

The wage range for Investigator is $22.00 - $26.00 per hour.
