General Description
Under the direction of the Chief Medical Officer and within federal, state, and local guidelines, performs advanced (senior-level) nursing work. Work involves planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating nursing activities and providing for the care and treatment of individual served. Work may include serving as a resource on nursing practices and education programs by performing consultative and administrative work.
Assign and supervise the work of others and works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for the administration and evaluation of the nursing services provided through County MHMR Center. The DON determines nursing service requirements while providing for the delegation of nursing care and treatment of clients in the Assertive Community Treatment team (ACT), Mobile Crisis Outreach Team Crisis Teams (MCOT), Crisis Residential Unit (CRU), Psychiatric Triage, The Center for Integrated Health (TCIH) and other MH Units of Denton County MHMR Centers. The coordination and supervision of the nursing staff and nursing related clinic operations of the Mental Health Clinic Outpatient and Medication Services are also under the direction of this individual. This position will work collaboratively with Chief Medical Officer and the Director of Clinic Operations to ensure the operations of the clinic are running smoothly and efficiently. This position requires management experience as well as in depth clinical experience with individuals with chronic mental illness. The ability to quickly prioritize needs and to coordinate services based on these needs is also a must.
This position ensures that direct nursing care in all programs is provided in compliance with the principles and standards of Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC), and the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners rules and regulations. Local, state, and federal statutes / laws applicable to service delivery also apply. The DON participates in planning, developing, implementing, and monitoring program operations, policies, and procedures to ensure efficiency of the MH department as well as the MH outpatient clinics. Attends meetings and gives input while serving as a member of the UM committee. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive
latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
