Job Summary

Under the direction of the Utility Operator, the Meter Reader records and reports water meter readings for the Billing and Collection Department. This position also performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

The Meter Reader is responsible for delivering excellent customer service by accurately and safely completing monthly meter readings. Key duties include :

• Reading residential and commercial water meters using hand-held devices.
• Performing data entry into hand-held computers.
• Identifying and reporting issues or defects in water meters and metering equipment.
• Contacting customers regarding meter location or access issues in person, via phone, or in writing.
• Completing assigned work orders promptly.
• Assisting with repairs of malfunctioning or broken meters.
• Cleaning water meters and meter boxes.
• Operating a City vehicle to perform daily duties.
• Performing other related tasks as assigned.
