Commercial Flooring Estimator
Position Summary
The Commercial Flooring Estimator is responsible for accurately preparing detailed cost estimates, takeoffs, and proposals for commercial flooring projects. This role requires strong attention to detail, industry knowledge, and the ability to interpret architectural drawings, specifications, and bid documents. The estimator works closely with general contractors, project managers, and vendors to ensure competitive and accurate pricing that supports project success.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Estimating
- Review bid invitations, drawings, specifications, and addenda to develop comprehensive flooring estimates.
- Perform material quantity takeoffs and calculate labor, materials, and equipment costs.
- Analyze vendor quotes, material yields, and installation methods to ensure accurate cost representation.
- Prepare and submit complete bid proposals, including scope letters and clarifications.
- Bid Management
- Track and prioritize incoming bid requests to meet deadlines.
- Communicate effectively with general contractors, architects, and suppliers during the bid process.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project reviews as needed.
- Maintain a detailed bid log and track awarded, pending, and lost projects.
Collaboration & Support
Coordinate with project managers to review awarded jobs for a seamless transition from estimating to execution.Work with vendors and manufacturers to obtain current pricing, technical data, and product recommendations.Contribute to estimating process improvements, templates, and cost databases.Technical & AnalyticalRead and interpret blueprints, finish schedules, and construction documents.Understand and apply flooring installation standards, including moisture mitigation and substrate prep requirements.Utilize estimating software (such as RFMS Measure, Callidus, or similar) and Microsoft Excel for takeoffs and cost calculations .Qualifications
Minimum of 3+ years of commercial flooring estimating experience (carpet, resilient, tile, hardwood, etc.)Strong understanding of construction drawings, bid processes, and flooring systemsProficiency in estimating softwareExceptional attention to detail and time management in a deadline-driven environmentExcellent communication and organizational skillsAbility to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environmentPreferred Attributes
