Patient Care Assistant

Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, assists nursing staff with various patient care activities. Adheres to MercyOne's performance expectations and performs all defined services and other related duties in accordance with the mission, vision and values of MercyOne.

Essential Functions

1. Provides safe, personal care to patients.

• Responds to patient call lights quickly.
• Under the direction of nursing staff, assists in providing care.
• Prepares food for patients.
• Performs EKG's.
• Assists in orienting patients / families to hospital environment.
• Answers patient and family questions and refers appropriately.
• Assists in safekeeping of patient belongings.

2. Maintains clean, organized patient rooms and work areas.

4. Based on principles of growth and development, provides care appropriate to the age related needs of the patients served on his / her assigned unit which may include :

5. Adheres to all safety, infection control and employee health policies and procedures.

Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.
