Description
We are seeking an experienced Spec Writer to join our Greenville team. The Specifications Writer will utilize knowledge of construction products, materials and methods to write specifications and documentation for a variety of projects and building types and perform quality control. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Architecture or Construction Science Management, and ten (10) years combined experience in architecture and specifications development, and a strong knowledge of construction procedures, building codes, and schedules.
Responsibilities
- Review drawings and project information to write and edit specifications and documentation for projects and coordinate compliance with project requirements, Firm standards, technical conditions, existing laws, rules, codes, and regulations. Offer modifications and improvements when appropriate.
- Provide quality management reviews and technical advice in design development through construction document phases.
- Regularly meet with construction team and monitor change order occurrences to identify areas of specification and documentation improvements.
- Collaborate with peers to develop best practices and share knowledge.
- Develop and maintain a library of commonly used architectural and building system specifications.
- Propose continual development and improvement of master specifications including its specialized content for project type or regional conditions as well as sustainable content.
- Maintain awareness of industry reference standards and resources.
- Assist architects with shop drawing and product substitution reviews.
- Act as a risk management resource to advise project managers and leaders.
- Assist with internal specification training.
- Train, mentor, and encourage team members in developing specifications writing proficiency.
- Perform other duties as directed.
