About the College / Unit / Department :
The College of Family and Consumer Sciences is committed to student success, holistic development and inclusive perspective taking. FACS develops leaders who focus on the science and art of helping individuals live well in a complex society. The Department of Nutritional Sciences is one of four departments in the College. The Department has 20 full-time and 3 part-time faculty, 408 undergraduate students majoring in Nutritional Sciences, Dietetics, and Culinary Science and Nutrition, and FACS Education, as well as, 31 graduate students in the PhD and MS thesis graduate degree programs and 58 in the non-thesis MS degree programs including the on-line MS program in Community Nutrition.
To support the development of a nationally recognized clinical and translational research program in nutrition and bone health, the Department of Nutritional Sciences has a Scanco XtremeCTII high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) scanner, a XCT3000 peripheral quantitative computed tomography (p-QCT) scanner, and a Hologic Horizon dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scanner. The Department has strong ties and opportunities for interdisciplinary research with faculty in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Genetics, Animal and Dairy Sciences, Kinesiology, Pharmacy, Food Science and Technology, Public Health, Veterinary Medicine, Gerontology, Psychology, the Biomedical and Health Sciences Institute https : / / bhsi.uga.edu / among others. The University of Georgia is one of four institutions within the NIH-funded Georgia Clinical & Translational Alliance which leverages complementary strengths to accelerate clinical and translational research http : / / georgiactsa.org / . Additionally, the Clinical and Translational Research Unit (CTRU) https : / / ctru.uga.edu / located on the UGA Health Sciences Campus, supports investigators to conduct clinical and translational studies.

To be considered for the position of Assistant Professor, the applicant must hold an earned doctoral degree (upon appointment) in nutrition or a related scientific field. The applicant must have an academic background in the science of nutrition and have demonstrated productivity in bone-related research in health and / or disease. The applicant should have demonstrated scholarly competence and research productivity and evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills.
Relevant / Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and / or Certification :
Candidates with at least two years of post-doctoral research experience and at least two years of experience conducting clinical trials focused on bone health are preferred. Candidates that demonstrate evidence of preparation and submission of external research grants are also preferred.
