Responsibilities Work in both ICU and PCU / Tele units within a hospital environment Patient diagnoses include CHF, stroke, sepsis, cardiac dysrhythmias, pneumonia, diabetes, respiratory issues, and high flow oxygen cases ICU has 12 beds with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 : 2; PCU / Tele has 36 beds (20 semi-private rooms) with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 : 4 RN will provide care for patients using vents, drips (sedation, vasoactive), and manage stroke protocols using NIHSS and thrombolytics Common titratable drips include vasopressors, antihypertensives, amiodarone, Cardizem, insulin, heparin, esmolol, argatroban, fentanyl, propofol, precedex, and versed Utilizes servo ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, and high-flow oxygen equipment 12-hour day shifts from 7a-7p with no on-call or holiday requirements Travelers are required to float first and may take full assignments up to 4 patients Charge RN is present on each shift and rarely takes patient assignments Charge nurse responds to all inpatient MSETS and Rapid Response calls Team includes a free-floating resource nurse per shift and respiratory therapy assistance is available when needed Unit / department orientation includes 2 to 3 shifts with a preceptor Navy blue scrubs are required for this assignment No holiday or on-call coverage is required First time travelers will not be considered for this position Requirements Active RN license valid in VA or compact state Minimum 2 years of recent ICU and PCU / telemetry experience required Prior travel RN experience required Ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythms Certifications required : BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NIHSS Stroke patient care experience using NIHSS is mandatory Experience managing and titrating drips and caring for vented patients required Benefits High Pay and Bonuses Medical, Dental and Vision Insurance with Day 1 Options 401(k) Plan Weekly Payroll Deposit Free Online CEUs Generous Housing Allowance Travel and Licensure Reimbursements Non-taxed Per Diem and Subsidy Traveler Rewards and Discounts American Traveler Job ID P-620890.
