Overview
Primary Services is excited to announce the role of Instrument and Controls Engineer for a leading chemical manufacturing client. This position offers the chance to lead the design, management, and execution of instrumentation and control projects across multiple plant sites. You will provide technical expertise on process instrumentation, Safety Instrumented Systems, and Distributed Control Systems, supporting plant reliability, process optimization, and operational efficiency. The role allows hands-on involvement in both design and field applications, while contributing to strategic improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Lead technical design of Instrumentation and Controls projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Manage small-scale projects aimed at improving plant reliability.
- Perform technical review and stewardship of Safety Instrumented Systems and plant standards.
- Conduct technical reviews of instrumented systems designs and modifications.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and cross-functional teams on the repair, troubleshooting, and optimization of instrumentation, analyzers, and electrical equipment.
- Conduct root cause analysis of failed components and recommend solutions.
- Provide preliminary economic evaluations of cost reduction or revenue-generating project opportunities.
- Assist Operations and Maintenance personnel with technical guidance and support.
- Develop and apply mathematical models, evaluate plant data, and recommend process control solutions.
- Support implementation of new analog, digital, and supervisory process control strategies.
- Perform other duties as assigned, supporting process control and plant improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in DCS controls and instrumentation within a chemical or petrochemical plant environment.Current and / or prior plant experience is requiredKnowledge of process instrumentation, control valves, and distributed control systems.Experience performing commissioning and functional checks of plant instrumentation.Familiarity with preventative maintenance systems and administration.DeltaV or similar DCS controls experience preferred.SAP experience, specifically with the Project Systems (PS) module.Desired : 5+ years of experience and knowledge of ladder and function block logic for Safety Instrumented Systems.Strong ability to work independently and in a team environment across both office and field settings.Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with all levels of the organization.Location : Baytown, TX
