About Us
UofL Hospital, a 404-bed academic teaching and research hospital, is at the heart of the Louisville Metro area in downtown Louisville. UofL Hospital offers a second-to-none cancer center, world-renowned trauma team and a uniquely streamlined, nationally accredited stroke center—the latest innovations in a history of world-class care. UofL Hospital is the only adult Level I Trauma Center in the region, which includes the only dedicated burn center in Kentucky.
UofL Hospital achieved the highest national recognition awarded to a hospital for excellence in nursing - Magnet designation. Magnet status is the gold standard, and a reflection of nursing professionalism, teamwork and superiority in patient care. The American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Magnet Recognition Program® distinguishes organizations that meet rigorous standards for nursing excellence.
UofL Health is bringing downtown Louisville more quality care and increased access with the expansion of the new UofL Hospital West Tower. UofL Hospital’s West Tower will include a new 24-bed observation unit, 6 additional operating rooms as well as the option for more private beds throughout the remainder of the hospital.
With more than 1.5 million patients seeking care through UofL Health each year, the new West Tower will help UofL Hospital operate at a higher capacity. The combined impact of the additional beds and the observation unit creates room for nearly 100 more patients and reduces wait times as patients transition between different levels of care. The seven-story tower expansion will also include the infrastructure to accommodate two more floors for future growth.
Alongside the increased clinical space, the expansion will include an enhanced visitor experience with a new lobby, waiting area, chapel, along with updates to the gift shop and coffee shop.
Our Mission
As an academic health care system, we will transform the health of the communities we serve through compassionate, innovative, patient-centered care.
