Job Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of University Hospitals is a key member of the executive leadership team, working closely with the COO, CNO, CEO, and the University's financial leadership. This role is responsible for the financial strategy, planning, and operations of the University Hospitals, ensuring fiscal integrity, regulatory compliance, and long-term sustainability.
The CFO will play a critical role in evaluating operational challenges, balancing risk and opportunity, and supporting institutional growth. This leader must demonstrate strong financial acumen, strategic thinking, and collaborative leadership in a complex, highly regulated healthcare environment.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Oversee all financial operations, including general ledger, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, cost management, and revenue cycle management
Ensure the integrity of financial reporting and develop a culture of transparency and accountability
Lead the development of annual operating and capital budgets in partnership with Health System and University financial leaders
Provide financial decision-making support, including benchmarking, variance analysis, and forecasting
Collaborate with the revenue cycle team to optimize revenue collection and ensure billing compliance
Develop and implement financial strategies to reduce operating costs and improve cash flow
Provide analytical tools and timely information to hospital leadership to support operational performance
Support payer negotiations in collaboration with Health System and Southwest Health Resource's financial leaders
Evaluate and develop finance team talent, performance plans, and recruitment strategies
Provide strategic guidance on new clinical programs and partnerships
Maintain high professional standards in all financial operations
Foster collaboration and communication across departments and leadership teams
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required :
Education : Master's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field
Experience :
10 years of progressively responsible financial leadership experience in an academic medical center, major teaching hospital, or multi-hospital system
Preferred :
Certification : Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong presentation and communication skills with experience advising senior executive teams
Proven financial analysis and problem-solving capabilities
Experience developing and executing disciplined growth strategies
Strong business development and strategic planning skills
Ability to translate financial data into actionable insights for operational improvement
Familiarity with modern management tools, including IT systems and process improvement methodologies
Experience with EPIC and PeopleSoft (PS) is a plus
Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing financial teams
