An award-winning global consulting engineering firm is seeking a Traffic and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Department Manager to join its growing transportation team in Florida. This employee-owned firm has over a century of experience serving the energy, federal, transportation, and water sectors—dedicated to solving complex challenges and shaping sustainable, connected communities.
About the Role
The Traffic and ITS Engineering Department Manager will oversee the direction and supervision of professional and technical staff (typically 8–10 employees plus a traffic planning section). This leadership role involves managing project priorities, staffing, budgets, and assignments to deliver high-quality design solutions that meet client needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage departmental operations, including personnel administration, project quality assurance, and business development support.
- Lead strategic and growth initiatives for traffic planning, engineering, and ITS.
- Support client service managers (CSMs) with outreach and relationship management.
- Identify and pursue new project opportunities and assist with proposal development.
- Build and maintain relationships with key traffic and ITS clients.
- Recommend and manage department budgets, staffing plans, and capital expenditures.
- Mentor and develop project managers and department members to support their professional growth.
- Oversee hiring, promotions, and other personnel decisions.
- Serve as Project Manager on major traffic and ITS projects.
- Coordinate department resource planning and workload balancing.
- Establish and maintain operating policies, standards, and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by senior leadership.
This position is hands-on, involving all phases of traffic and ITS engineering—proposals, studies, modeling, design, and project management—for public and private sector clients.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience.Active Florida Professional Engineer (PE) license, or ability to obtain one shortly.Experience in traffic engineering, planning, and / or ITS design.Strong written and verbal communication skills.Preferred Qualifications
PTOE or RSP certification.Safety planning experience.Work Environment & Flexibility
This role offers a hybrid schedule :
Two days per week in the office.Two days per week remote.Fridays are flexible (either in-office or remote).Eligible roles may also participate in a 9 / 80 work schedule , offering every other Friday off.What’s Offered
