Summary :
The Medical Billing Supervisor is responsible for oversight of the Insurance Billing Specialists, Payment Posters, Financial Counselors, and the Collections process. This supervisor will have a thorough understanding of insurance claim submission procedures, denial management and electronic / paper insurance remit payment posting. Will support the Patient Financial Services staff in Financial Counseling and Self-pay Collections processes. Staff supervision, coaching and training will be a vital part of this Supervisor role; so excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills are a must. Compliance with healthcare regulations and HIPAA guidelines must be monitored and followed.

Key Responsibilities :
- Oversight of the daily operations of the billing department
- Supervises, coaches, trains and evaluates assigned staff.
- Ensures the accuracy of claim submission, denial management and payment posting.
- Strong understanding of Medicare, Medicaid and Commercial Payer billing guidelines, regulations and claim requirements. Rural Health and / or Critical Access Hospital knowledge is a plus.
- Manages electronic claims processing, ERAs, EFTs, special billing programs and discount management.
- Creates, implements, and enforces billing and collections policies and procedures.
- Continual process improvement to create efficiencies in workflows.
- Recommendations for EHR system improvement, work queue management, etc.
- Helps resolve difficult patient billing concerns and / or issues that arise in other OMC Departments that affect the billing staff’s ability to do their job.
- Ensures Compliance with healthcare regulations and HIPAA requirements.
- Insurance and patient A / R Management to support best practices and industry benchmarks.
- Assure patient collection processes and policies are being followed to meet state and federal requirements.
- Reviews and manages the productivity of the billing, payment posting, financial counseling and collections staff.
- Special projects as requested by the Revenue Cycle Director or CFO.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
High school diploma / GED required; associates degree in healthcare administration is a plus.The Medical Billing Supervisor should have 5 or more years of experience and knowledge in accurate medical billing processes, electronic claims submission requirements and A / R management.Proven staff supervisory experience with excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.Knowledge or medical terminology and healthcare business common language usage.Medical Billing and Insurance Payer regulatory requirements knowledge.Team building, time management and staff coaching skills.Advanced Electronic Health Record (EHR) system knowledge. Microsoft product knowledge and skills.Analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.Rural Health and / or Critical Access Hospital experience is a plus but not required.
