Director of Children's and Youth Ministry - Faith United Methodist Church
Position Summary : The Director of Children and Youth Ministries cultivates a Christ-centered environment rooted in United Methodist theology that nurtures faith development for children, youth, and their families. This role is vital to fostering spiritual growth across all generations while cultivating meaningful partnerships with organizations throughout our local community.
Core Responsibilities :
Administrative & Leadership Duties
- Facilitate leadership within the Christian Education Committee and work collaboratively with staff and ministry teams
- Manage education and ministry budgets in collaboration with church finance staff
- Ensure all ministry environments adhere to child protection and safety policies
- Oversee youth programs, special events, and holiday functions
Worship
Collaborate with clergy and staff to design inclusive worship opportunities for children and youthEncourage student leadership in worship services (e.g. scripture readings, worship teams)Integrate faith practices into all programming to foster a spirit of worship and reverenceFellowship & Relationships
Develop strong relationships with children, youth, and familiesFacilitate cross-generational programs and events that foster unity and shared faith experiencesSupport senior adult ministry through intergenerational connection and careOutreach & Community Engagement
Represent the church in partnerships with local schools, nonprofits, and faith-based organizationsOrganize family-friendly outreach opportunities and seasonal community events (e.g., VBS, Trunk-or-Treat, Christmas programs)Equip youth to serve the church and community through mission, outreach, and leadershipCare & Service
Create programs that meet the needs of young families, including weekday support, parenting resources, and community connectionProvide spiritual and pastoral support for youth and families navigating life challengesDiscipleship & Education
Provide leadership for Christian education across all age levels, including Sunday School, youth group, and adult education oversightDevelop an engaging, age-appropriate discipleship pathway from childhood through adolescenceCoordinate curriculum selection and implementation rooted in Wesleyan theologyMentor and support youth in exploring vocational ministry and deepening their personal faithQualifications
Committed relationship with Jesus Christ and a calling to ministry within the local churchTheological alignment with United Methodist Church values and doctrinesBachelor’s degree preferredDemonstrated experience in Christian education, a ministry role, or related church-based programming.Exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skillsDemonstrates a growth mindset with a commitment to continuous learning, adaptability, and embracing challenges as opportunitiesA collaborative spirit, with the ability to motivate and mentor both youth and adultsMust be available to work Sunday mornings regularly, as well as evenings and weekends as neededMust pass a background check to adhere to child protection and safety policiesApplication Instructions
