Job Title : Maintenance Person

Summary : Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Maintenance Person is responsible for performing duties to repair and maintain machinery, equipment, building, and facility. Requiring a broad knowledge of maintenance skills including mechanical repair, plumbing, welding, carpentry and a basic knowledge of electrical repair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1) Install, repair, rebuild, and maintain machinery and mechanical equipment used in production.

2) Diagnose machine malfunction and operating difficulties.

3) Make repairs or adjustments to keep equipment in production.

4) Perform skilled operations such as filing and aligning bearings, spindles, and shafts. Adjust feed and limit mechanisms, gibs, and ways.

5) Perform various activities related to the installation and relocation of existing machines and equipment to involve dismantling, erection, leveling, fitting and aligning operations.

6) Assist to determine the nature and scope of forthcoming projects and the requirements for completion.

7) Maintain required maintenance logs, files and preventative maintenance.

8) Perform housekeeping activities in the department and ensure adherence to established safety procedures and requirements.

9) Ability to work in a team centered atmosphere and train new employees.

EDUCATION and / or EXPERIENCE : Requires a broad knowledge of mechanical repair and maintenance as may be acquired in a three year formalized program including blueprint reading and interpretation plus up to three years extensive experience in a variety of maintenance trades.

LANGUAGE SKILLS : Able to read and interpret documents such as blueprints, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Able to write standard documents. Able to speak effectively before employees and management.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all unites of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY : Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Able to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS : Requires the ability to operate various tools and equipment to include various hand and power tools, metal fabrication equipment, welding equipment, and various measuring equipment.

The employee must frequently lift and / or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and / or move up to 100 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
