Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) seeks a strategic, experienced, and powerful Director of Black Partnerships. This job reports to the Senior Director of Organizing and Partnerships in the Strategic Partnerships vertical of the Political and Legislative Affairs department. The Political and Legislative Affairs is a new department in the External Affairs Division that maintains our power and presence in Washington and nationally year-round.

The Strategic Partnerships (SP) team ensures PPFA works alongside key partners to build power nationally and in Washington, D.C., to achieve intersectional wins that create the most favorable conditions for affiliates and people everywhere to have equitable access to high-quality health care, especially Black and Latinx patients (PPFA Strategic Plan 2025). The SP team also engages partners to build the long term political influence and power necessary to achieve a national, durable, expansive right to abortion; ultimately building an unstoppable, intersectional movement for reproductive freedom and equality.

Purpose :

Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Strategic Partnerships, and in collaboration with the Director of Movement Partnerships, and Manager of Latino Partnerships, this role will assess, develop, and sustain relationships. This role will partner engagement strategy with national Black organizations and / or organizations serving Black constituencies.

Engagement :

This role will leverage strategic partnerships to ensure that Planned Parenthood's power, brand, and infrastructure is recognized as a movement leader, and a trusted source for sexual and reproductive health care and information is known and publicly supported among Black organizations and communities. This includes contributing to the External Affair division's goals. Educating the public, and in this case, the Black community, on the impact of the advocacy and care provided by Planned Parenthood health centers, member organizations, and national office. Engage powerful Black organizations, activists, and allies to promote and advocate for Planned Parenthood. Drive Black supporters and would-be supporters to take action, access sexual reproductive health care, and engage politically. Strengthen Planned Parenthood's relationships with racial justice, reproductive justice, and civil rights partners.

The Director of Black Partnerships will assess, develop, and sustain strategic partnerships strategies to ensure that Black organizations and communities recognize the power of Planned Parenthood's Brand, Culture, Policy and Power. Brand : People, including Black communities, are aware of Planned Parenthood and the services affiliates provide; they trust us, come to us for care and information, and support us when we ask them to. Culture : Dominant public narratives that affirm sexual and reproductive freedom as essential, and shift perceptions around gender and race among Black communities. Policy : Access to sexual and reproductive health (SRH) for Black patients and BIPOC communities is protected and expanded via state ballot measures, legislation, litigation, and durable federal protections. Power : Build Influence among Black partner organizations to drive electoral, judicial, and legislative agendas.

Delivery :

The Director of Black Partnerships will contribute to the goal of ensuring that PPFA / AF is able to maintain our power and presence in Washington, D.C. year round. The Director of Black Partnerships leads the following partner engagement strategies among Black organizations and constituencies. Coalition management : May represent the interests of PPFA / AF on coalitions led by other organizations pertaining to Black sexual and reproductive health, civil rights, democracy, elections, and / or cross movement priorities like pregnancy criminalization. May identify opportunities for intersectional campaigns and agendas through partner-led coalitions. Cross Movement Campaign Leadership : Co-leads cross movement campaigns and national supporter engagement strategies at the intersection of immigrant rights, abortion access, pregnancy criminalization, LGBTQ+ rights, and democracy rights.

Manages and tracks project timelines and workflows. Core Circle(s) management : Manage core circles of strategically selected Black partners for intersectional campaigns and peaks and elections by managing internal communications and applying organizing principles. Core Circles of Black organizations may be activated throughout peak moments, advocacy campaigns pertaining to the promotion of Planned Parenthood, sexual and reproductive health, and / or abortion access. Support Advocacy Campaigns : Identify peaks, moments, and opportunities for supporters to participate in cross-movement and intersectional advocacy campaigns, as invited by national Black partners and others. Will project manage peaks, moments, and campaigns to ensure PPFA / AF lends power to intersectional wins that improve Black and YBIPOC patients' health outcomes and ability to secure a national, durable, expansive right to abortion.

Ongoing partner engagement : Create and manage consistent opportunities for national Black partners, cross-movement partners, and PPFA to understand each others' campaign priorities, state of play and how to take action on a regular basis. Directs partner engagement strategies and communications aligned to a content calendar and campaign objectives. Keeps abreast of diverse issue areas and PPFA initiatives to respond to partner requests, cross movement coalition work / collaborations and affiliates as needed. Supports external communications, internal proposals, and reports related to national partnerships including quarterly newsletters and reports on overall Black engagement strategies

Creates, maintains a Black partnership database, and contributes to other partner tracking. Grants, Sponsorships and Events : Work closely with the Manager of Latino Partnerships, and Constituency Teams (Black Organizing Program) in the Organizing, Elections, & Campaigns department as needed to prioritize partner action grants, sponsorships, and event collaboration aligned to the goals and strategies of the Political and Legislative Affairs department. Leads the execution of external partnership events and conferences, including but not limited to speaker and volunteer recruitment, workshop planning, set?up, marketing displays, table coordination and sponsorship management as needed. Leads partner action grants in support of campaign related goals.

Principal Management : Support PPFA principal engagement by identifying key peaks, moments, and opportunities that position External Affairs senior leadership as powerful allies to Black patients, supporters, and organizations across the country. Federation Engagement : Support PPFA national office and member organizations in best practices relating to engaging Black partner organizations and coalitions. Manages the execution of internal webinars, conferences, and convening to uplift lessons learned, best practices, and overall engagement of partnerships, cross movement work, and affiliate experience. Leads Black engagement around key observances in collaboration departments across the organization, with particular focus on National Supporter Engagement. Supports the Senior Director in preparing materials and relevant documentation in advance of meetings with leadership teams and other stakeholders.

Performs Other Duties as Assigned : Supports core campaigns and special projects as needed. This could be, but is not limited to, managing the cross collaboration efforts across departments, divisions, and partners to strengthen Black partnerships and manage special projects as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) :

Bachelor's degree required and / or equivalent experience. 6-8 years of related work experience in organizing, advocacy political campaigns, partnership development or similar experience preferred. At least 3-5 years of experience with grants and / or fundraising preferred. Demonstrated commitment to social justice and campaigns for and with Black communities, with preference to those who have existing relationships in the national Black advocacy space : civil rights, reproductive justice, health care, and / or national progressive organizations centering Black communities. An understanding of the history and contributions of the Reproductive Justice movement and experience with reproductive health and justice. Excellent relational skills, and a proven track record of building trust amongst external and internal stakeholders. Experienced Director-level (and / or commensurate experience) with the demonstrated ability to create rigorous project timelines and workflows. Project management skills from inception, implementation, and evaluation. Demonstrated success with partner engagement and / or external strategies aligned to campaign objectives and / or strategic plans. Analytical and planning skills that enables the Director to execute program plans, reports, budgets, aligned to the short, medium, and long-term OPC goals. Flexible and adaptable given frequent changes in the landscape and the ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines, often in a fast-paced environment with a track record of success. Strong communication skills : excellent writing and public speaking skills, with preference for experience acting as a spokesperson. Experience working in a mission-driven, not-for-profit organization. Knowledgeable of diverse communities, able to work with a multicultural workforce and will have sensitivity to and appreciation for cultural differences and commitment to race equity and anti-racism work. Ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Experienced with keeping sensitive information confidential.

$115,000 - $125,000 / year
